Dear Parents and Carers,

Wednesday marked the beginning of a new chapter as St Anne's joins the MITRE Trust, and it is a partnership built on shared Christian foundations.  Both St Anne's and MITRE believe that every child is uniquely created, deeply valued and full of God-given potential.  St Anne's vision to develop the whole child—spiritually, mentally and physically - in a caring Christian environment, encouraging children to love God, love learning and love themselves and others, sits naturally alongside MITRE's commitment to helping every child flourish and opening doors to fulfilling futures.

Our values complement one another beautifully with St Anne's seeking to nurture perseverance, responsibility, forgiveness, acceptance, honesty and respect as values to be lived out every day, whilst MITRE emphasises wisdom, kindness, integrity, collaboration and service.  Together these are not competing priorities but different expressions of the same Christian calling: to grow young people who know they are loved by God, who care for others with compassion and integrity, who work together in community, and who are equipped to make a positive difference in the world.  As we begin this journey together, we do so with confidence that our shared vision will strengthen the opportunities, care and flourishing of every child entrusted to us.

On Thursday, three members of the trust’s central team spent the day with us, visiting classrooms and speaking with staff and pupils.  They were highly complimentary about everything they saw in action. They also had the opportunity to watch Class 4’s assembly, which showcased the children’s hard work and was enjoyed by all.

This week, our Year 6 pupils have been attending transition visits to their various secondary schools.  These visits also enabled the rest of the school to take part in' Transition Day 'on Wednesday.  Transition is such an important part of school life, helping children feel prepared, confident, and excited about the next stage of their learning journey.

We are delighted to share that our school has been awarded the Eco Award, with Distinction.   My sincere thanks go to Miss Burgoyne for submitting the application and for all of their hard work in leading and supporting the Eco Committee. This achievement reflects the commitment of our pupils and staff to caring for our environment and promoting sustainability across the school.

Next week promises to be another exciting one.  We look forward to our Key Stage 1 Sports Day on Tuesday 7 July, as well as the Class 5 and 6 production performances, (Monday 6 July 3.30pm) and Tuesday 7 July 5.00pm) which are open to all families.

Key Stage 2 Sports House events (team element) have also been scheduled for Tuesday 14th July at 2pm.

Pearson, who deliver the SATS results, have announced that they will now be delivered on 16 July.  They have said the delay is the result of technical issues with the new SATs platform Pearson uses to support markers, along with technical issues in the transfer of data within the systems Pearson uses for SATs.  Their statement can be found here: https://plc.pearson.com/en-GB/news-and-insights/news/pearson-statement-delay-sats-results-england

Finally, we are very pleased to welcome Mrs Storrs back into school this week. We are incredibly grateful to see her continuing her recovery, and it has been wonderful to have her back with us.

News from the Classes

Reception

Reception began the week with a wonderful ‘wow’ moment as the children released their painted lady butterflies after observing their incredible life cycle first-hand.  The children were excited to watch the butterflies take flight and enjoyed discussing the changes they had seen from tiny caterpillars to beautiful butterflies.  The children also took part in two transition days and were fantastic ambassadors for the Reception Class.  They demonstrated excellent listening skills, kindness and enthusiasm, and showed Miss Decouto what superstars they are.  This week, Reception also began their new topic on farms, using ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ as their key text. The children have enjoyed exploring the story, joining in with the repeated phrases and discussing the different animals, jobs and places found on a farm. 

Class One

This week, Class 1 have been reading a new story in English called ‘The Night Pirates’, by Peter Harris. They have been exploring how to use expanded noun phrases to describe characters and settings, helping to make their writing more detailed and exciting.   The children enjoyed using adventurous vocabulary to bring the story to life, creating descriptions of mysterious pirate ships, dark moonlit seas and brave characters.  Next, they are going to use the ideas they have planned to write a detailed setting description.

As well as this, Class 1 were also very excited to visit their new class and meet their new teachers ready for September.  The children had a wonderful day and shared all about it.  They are looking forward to joining Class 2 in September!

Class Two

This week Class 2 have had a busy week with lots of exciting learning opportunities. The children have covered more information on states and territories and decided which state they wanted to live in and why.  They have become Maths detectives in our problem solving work this week, looking at 9 different houses, and all the different ways they could sort them and explaining why they chose this method.  In our English lessons, the children have chance to explore writing their non-chronological reports focusing on animals including humans.  In gymnastics the children consolidated their

learning with practicing all the jumps they have learned over the last term as well as having a chance to use the apparatus again.  The children also enjoyed spending time with their new teacher and getting to do fun activities in their new classroom, it has been a great week!

Class Three

This week, Class 3 have continued to work hard across the curriculum and have shown great enthusiasm in their learning.  In Maths, the children have been exploring angles and turns, developing their understanding of right angles, quarter turns, half turns and three-quarter turns.  They have also been consolidating their arithmetic skills, applying efficient methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In English, Class 3 have begun focusing on setting descriptions as part of their narrative writing unit.  The children have been building their vocabulary by exploring ambitious and descriptive language to create vivid settings that engage the reader and bring their writing to life.  In Geography, the class have been comparing the physical and human geography of the Scottish Highlands with Naples in Italy. They have explored the similarities and differences between these locations, considering features such as landscape, climate, population and land use.   During swimming lessons, the children have continued to develop their swimming skills by practising a range of strokes and improving their technique, confidence and stamina in the water.  In Science, Class 3 have been investigating shadows by measuring how they change in size.  The children explored how the distance between a light source and an object affects the size of the shadow, making careful observations and recording their findings through scientific enquiry.

Class Four

This week, Class 4 proudly presented their class assembly, The Tudors – More Than Just Six Wives!, to a huge audience of parents, carers and the rest of the school.

The performance was nothing short of phenomenal! Every child played their part brilliantly, delivering their lines with confidence, clarity and just the right amount of subtle humour to keep the audience engaged. It was wonderful to see every single child remember their lines and demonstrate excellent audience awareness throughout. The class also treated everyone to a superb performance of their poetry, carefully considering their volume, pace, intonation and body language to bring their words to life. It was a truly memorable performance that showcased not only the children's knowledge of the Tudors but also their growing confidence as performers. Miss Broughton was absolutely bursting with pride, and Class 4 should all be incredibly proud of what they achieved.

Class Five

Class 5 have had an action‑packed and inspiring week. In maths, they worked confidently on converting units, moving between grams and kilograms and metres to kilometres, using their understanding that kilo means 1000 to support accurate calculations.  In English, they became journalists, crafting newspaper reports with clear introductory paragraphs using the 5 W’s, and applying precise dialogue punctuation to present quotes professionally.  In RE, the class explored the Kingdom of God through the parables of the mustard seed and yeast.   A highlight was watching bread dough rise and linking this to how people in God’s Kingdom grow within themselves and recognising that something small can develop into greatness. They also enjoyed a fantastic gym session, practising vaults, forward rolls on a bench and confident dismounts. They also delivered a brilliant dress rehearsal of their play to the whole school. What a week!

Class Six

Class 6 have had an incredibly busy and exciting week as they begin to prepare for the next stage of their education.  A major highlight was performing the Class 5/6 production to the school.  The children should be extremely proud of themselves for their successful performances, demonstrating confidence, teamwork and dedication after weeks of rehearsals.  The class have also been visiting their new secondary schools as part of their transition programme.  These visits have provided valuable opportunities to meet new teachers, explore new surroundings and begin looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead.  Back in the classroom, they have been preparing job specifications and interview questions for the Class 6 responsibilities that will soon be passed on to the current Class 5 pupils.  This has encouraged them to reflect on the qualities needed for leadership roles and the importance of being positive role models within our school community.
