Summer 29: Friday 15 May 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to begin by recognising how incredibly well Class 6 have approached their SATs tests this week. Every Class 6 pupil has shown maturity, resilience and a calm determination throughout the papers. As we have reminded the children, SATs are simply a ‘snapshot in time’, and all we ever ask is that they try their very best. We are proud of each and every one of them. Their individual strengths, talents and personalities make them the group that they are. A special thank you must also go to all staff involved in the process - whether it be voluntarily delivering booster sessions, supporting 1:1, helping with the administration, it has all enabled the process to run smoothly. Well done to the children who have attended a variety of booster groups since January - their commitment and perseverance has been evident.
In collective worship this week, we explored the “ow moments” we all experience - those times when life feels difficult, uncertain or overwhelming. We talked with the children about how, in those moments, we might reach out for help, comfort or reassurance. We reflected on the story of the woman who touched Jesus’ cloak to be healed (Mark 5:25–34), reminding us that even in challenging times, faith, courage and hope can guide us forward. This week also marked Ascension Day, an important moment in the Christian calendar. Ascension Day recognises the moment when Jesus returned to heaven, forty days after Easter, reminding Christians of Jesus’ promise that they would never be alone, and that the Holy Spirit would be with them to guide, strengthen and comfort. We linked this to our own “ow moments”, helping the children understand that even when things feel tough, there is always hope, support and light ahead.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the school disco this week. The timing could not have been better for our Class 6 pupils after finishing their SATs, but it was equally wonderful to see the joy on all the children’s faces as they danced, enjoyed the music and spent time with their friends. The atmosphere was full of laughter, energy and community spirit.
Let the fun begin as we announce the return of St Anne’s Got Talent, our muchβloved show that takes place every two years. We are now looking for acts—musicians, dancers, singers, magicians, comedians and more. All children need to do is collect an entry form from the school office. We cannot wait to see the creativity and confidence our pupils bring to the stage.
A heartfelt thank you also to everyone who has donated pallets, pipes and other materials for our outdoor and creative projects. Your generosity is hugely appreciated - please do keep them coming in. Posters around school show everything that we are currently collecting, so please take a look if you are able to help further.
We are also looking for 'raffle prizes' for the summer fayre. Do you have any connections to local business that may be willing to donate? Our fayre is an event in which we try to raise a significant sum, which then goes on to subsidise the cost of trips for all of the children. We would appreciate any gesture.
We are still collecting teddy bears for our ‘Adopt a Teddy’ stall at the school fayre – there is quite a display of teddy’s in the reception area if you get a chance to take a look when in school.
Eco Committee Cake Sale
The Eco Committee judged the cake competition that we had as part of David Attenborough’s 100th birthday celebration. There were some wonderful entries.

The winner was Elsie P (1)

News from the Classes
Reception
This week, Class Reception have continued to learn about ways they can stay healthy. They have explored the importance of handwashing and keeping their teeth clean. The children have also been learning about instructions, understanding that instructions can be both given and followed. They have practised using their vocabulary ‘first, next, then’ and finally to help structure their ideas. This linked nicely to their maths learning, where the children have been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction, using similar language such as first, then and now to describe what is happening.
Class One
This week, Class 1 have been learning all about fractions in Maths. The children have been exploring how to find half of a shape, object or group of items, and have also been introduced to finding a quarter. They are beginning to understand that when they find a half, they need to split something into two equal parts, and when they find a quarter, they split it into four equal parts.
In Science, they have been learning about animal diets. The children have been finding out about different types of animals, including herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. They have enjoyed sorting animals into these groups and talking about what different animals eat. The class have shown lots of curiosity and have asked about many different animals and their diet, leading to some long research lessons as a class.
Class Two
Children have been working on their new maths topic of fractions, they have started the topic by exploring parts and wholes of objects and numbers. In topic, children explored ‘The Great Barrier Reef’, looking at where it is located and why it is special. They have explored geographical and directional language such as north, east, tropical zone, coastal plains. In RE, children have celebrated Christian Aid week, they’ve explored what the ‘Beacon of Hope’ looks like at St Anne’s, and how we can improve our own school playground to help support our local community. In Science, children have looked at the life-cycle of a human being, and they have ordered the different stages of life. Children have really enjoyed role playing as ‘Kevin the koala’ gathering ideas for their diary entry. In PE, children have been working with Emma to practice their forward rolls, jumps off apparatus and completing several tasks that focus on their core strength. It has been a busy week for Class 2 but a fun one!
Class Three
Class 3 have been busy across the curriculum this term. In English, the children have been developing their newspaper writing skills by reporting on the eruption of Pompeii, using exciting headlines and detailed descriptions to capture the dramatic events. In Maths, pupils have been working hard in their statistics unit, learning how to read and interpret pictograms and bar charts. During PE lessons, the class have been practising their volleying skills and improving their teamwork through a range of activities. In Science, the children have been investigating magnetic materials, exploring which objects are attracted to magnets and making predictions through hands-on experiments. In Design and Technology the children have been making catapults.

Class Four
In RE this half term, Class 4 have been learning all about Pentecost as part of their Understanding Christianity unit. The children have developed increasing confidence in re-telling the Bible story and have been making thoughtful links between the events of Pentecost, and Christian beliefs about the Kingdom of God on Earth. This week, the class explored what Pentecost means to Christians today, and learnt how Christians celebrate the birth of the Church. The children shared some wonderful ideas and reflections during discussions, showing great maturity and curiosity in their learning.
Class Five
This week in Maths, Class 5 continued their work on angles around a point and used this understanding to calculate missing angles. In English, each pupil planned their own myth based on Medusa, developing imaginative characters and dramatic storylines. They are looking forward to writing them next week. During RE, they explored major issues in the global community and considered ideas of justice and how individuals can make a positive difference. In French, the children learned to say which sports they play, linking their new vocabulary to the Olympic Games. Their History lessons focused on the cityβstate of Sparta and what life was like in Ancient Greece, as well as roles for men, women and enslaved people. Next week, they will be comparing life in the city state of Sparta, with Athens. In PE, the class practised the skills needed to serve in a game of tennis – this was harder than it looked!
Class Six
Class 6 have done themselves proud this week as they completed their SATs assessments. The children have shown fantastic focus, resilience and maturity throughout, and it has been wonderful to see them showcase all of the learning they have built up over the year. Each child approached the week with a positive attitude and gave their very best effort in every paper. We are proud of their determination and the way they supported one another through such an important time. A huge well done to all of Class 6 - you should be very proud of yourselves! Mr Flockhart
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week

Wow this is the attendance we love to see! Well done to everyone, let’s keep this up!
Please use your Arbor App to check your current child’s attendance. Scroll up on your home page and you will see it for this year.
Increasingly, time is being taken away from having to do home visits in relation to attendance as part of overall safeguarding procedures and national expectations for school attendance, please take a look at future holiday patterns when considering your next holiday.
Prayer from Liam and Harriet R (6)
Dear God, please help us to have confidence in our SATS and to do it well.
Amen
Dear God
