Summer 25: Friday 17 April 2026
Friday 17 April 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the summer term. We hope you all had a lovely Easter break and were able to enjoy some rest and time together over the holiday weekend. The children have certainly returned full of enthusiasm, keen to share stories of Easter treats — with some proudly announcing that they still have chocolate eggs left!
This is our first formal opportunity to thank Classes 3 and 4 for their fabulous Easter concert at the end of last term. The children performed with confidence, enthusiasm and great teamwork, making it a very special event.
A big well done to the children who have returned their Lent Challenges — it was great to see them putting 'kindness into action'.
Looking Ahead
The summer term is always a busy and exciting one in school. Over the coming weeks, a number of classes will be involved in national statutory assessments. As we approach these, we kindly ask for your support in ensuring that children have a good night’s sleep and eat breakfast in the morning, helping them feel settled and ready for the day ahead. As we regularly remind the children, all we ask is that they try their best — to “be the best you that you can be”.
There are many trips and sporting events planned throughout the term, so please do keep an eye on forthcoming diary dates.
Gentle Reminder
We would like to encourage parents of Class 5 to sign their children up for the Autumn residential trip.
Christian Value for the Half Term – Honesty
This half term we are focusing on our Christian value of honesty. It takes courage to be honest, and we will explore what this means throughout the term. We will begin by thinking about being honest with others — becoming trustworthy individuals — and being honest with ourselves by saying no to lying or cheating and owning up to mistakes. We will also reflect on honesty within friendships and family, before concluding with a focus on the Christian feast of Pentecost.
Staffing News
We are pleased to welcome Mrs Green, who has joined Mrs Dunnicliff in the kitchen through the Vertas Catering contract.
Mrs Wilbraham has extended her time with us and joins the Teaching Assistant Team in KS2 for the summer term. In other news, Miss Ward who initially came on placement whilst studying before supporting the After School Club will be leaving us next Friday as she has secured a full-time position. We wish her well as she begins her career.
FOSAS
Our friendly PTA, FOSAS, meet regularly at the Shireoaks Inn. If you haven’t yet had the chance to join them, please consider popping along to their next meeting to find out more about their plans for the term. Due to the 'small' group of volunteers we have had to evaluate some of the events that can be offered in the future. Please let the office know if you can be a volunteer at events as it is the children who will be benefit. We will let you know the next meeting date when its available.
Breakfast Club and After School Club Pricing – September 2026
We have not changed the pricing structure since 2023, but at a recent Governing Body meeting it was agreed that due to rising costs, there will be a slight increase for breakfast and after school club from September 1st 2026. The costs will be: £3.50 for Breakfast Club and £11.00 for Afterschool Club.
Sporting News
There are a number of sporting events and activities planned this term, details of which will be shared shortly. We are looking forward to seeing the children represent the school with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Due to rising running costs, we need to inform you of an increase in our fees for Wrap Around Care provision, effective from September 2026.
From this date, the charges will be as follows:
- Breakfast Club: £3.50 per child
- After School Club: £11.00 per child
We have worked hard to keep our prices as low as possible over the years, but unfortunately, increasing costs mean that this adjustment is now necessary.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support.
News from the Classes
Reception
This week, Reception have been busy learning to retell ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,’ using ‘Talk for Writing’. The children have enjoyed exploring the story through actions, repetition, and drama, helping them to remember each part with confidence. They have also been finding out lots of interesting facts about different types of bears. After gathering their new knowledge, the children worked hard to write their own descriptions of a bear, using full sentences. In maths, Reception have been developing a new counting skill. They are learning that we don’t always need to start from 1 when counting, and have been practising more efficient strategies to help them find totals more quickly.
Class One
This week, Class 1 have been introduced to a new story in English. They have started to learn ‘The Snail and the Whale,’ through ‘Talk for Writing’ and have really enjoyed immersing themselves in a new text. They have been particularly excited by the rhyming pattern throughout the story and have begun to spot and join in with familiar phrases. The children spent time carefully labelling the front cover and making thoughtful predictions about what might happen, using clues from the illustrations and title. In RE, the children learnt a story from the Bible as they have started exploring the teachings of Jesus. They learnt about the miracle of the paralysed man and created some thoughtful work to accompany their learning. The children spent time reflecting on how the different people in the story might have felt, and what the characters might be saying, using their imagination to bring the story to life.
Class Two
In Class 2 the children have been settling back into the new term with immersing themselves into all their new subjects. From discussing and asking questions about Australia in geography to measuring objects and lines in maths.
In PE children have been enjoying spending more time with Emma, the gymnastics coach. Their jump of the week has been the stretch jump, they also got to use the large apparatus in the hall which they definitely enjoyed. In English, children have started to read and explore their new book ‘The Koala who Could.’ In PSHE, children have been looking at a what makes a healthy balanced diet, they sorted different foods into their food groups and discussed the difference between healthy foods and less healthy foods. In ‘Fluency Bee’ sessions children are continuing to focus on near doubles, what they look like and identifying them in number sentences. In Science, they used the laptops to research and investigate different habitats such as Urban, Coastal, Polar, Jungle, Sea and Desert. A very busy start back for Class 2!

Class Three
Class 3 have had a busy and exciting first week back, settling quickly into their new learning with enthusiasm and focus. In Geography, the children began their new unit by exploring the structure of the Earth, carefully labelling and learning about the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. In Science, they conducted an engaging investigation to examine the effects of friction, testing how different surfaces influence movement and recording their findings like true scientists. In English, pupils started their unit on non-chronological reports, developing their writing skills by using conjunctions and adverbs to express time, place and cause. In PE, it has been wonderful to see everyone active and motivated as they enjoyed returning to swimming and made an exciting start to their tennis unit.

Class Four
This week in science, the children have really enjoyed taking ownership of their learning as they planned their own experiment to investigate the best conditions for drying materials as part of their states of matter topic. They showed great curiosity and teamwork, thinking carefully about the variables they needed to test. Through their investigations, the children discovered that evaporation happens more effectively in warm conditions with air circulating around the material. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and developing scientific understanding in action.

Class Five
Class 5 have truly hit the ground running in their first week back after the Easter holidays! In maths, they have been learning about perimeter of rectangles, rectilinear shapes and polygons, as well as area of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. They have started their summer topic of ‘Ancient Greece’, which they are really excited about. In English, they have listened to the Greek myth of ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ and have written a set of instructions on ‘How to Defeat a Minotaur’. They have also started reading their class text, ‘Who Let The Gods Out,’ by Maz Evans.
The children have also started the Archbishop’s Young Leaders Award and have been thinking about the skills and qualities that make a good leader. In Science, they have started their topic on how humans develop and have looked at the many changes that happen to a baby in the first 12 months, noting significant milestones. PE has been great fun! The children have learnt the ‘ready position’ in tennis, as well as working on their forehand and backhand strokes.
Class Six
There has been a really positive start to the summer term in Class 6. The children have returned with a great attitude and have already begun revising for their upcoming SATs assessments. They have shown fantastic focus and determination this week, and it’s been lovely to see them approaching revision with such maturity and confidence. In topic, we have started our new unit on North America. The children are excited to learn about different countries, geography and cultures, and they are already asking lots of thoughtful questions as they build their understanding of the continent. In English, they have begun reading our new class text ‘Holes’. The children are thoroughly enjoying the story and are starting to explore characters, settings and key events as they build up to writing their own narrative. There has been some great discussion and super ideas shared so far. In science, the children have completed our unit on living things and their habitats. They have worked hard throughout this topic and have shown a strong understanding of classification.
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week
Well done to all pupils who received certificates this week. Your hard work, positive attitudes, and kindness continue to make our school a wonderful place to learn.
