Class 5

09 January 2026

All of Class 5, for being so kind, welcoming and supportive in my first week in school; it has been a pleasure to meet and start to get to know them all properly. They have helped me with school routines, timings and resources, which I have really appreciated, as well as just being there with a smile. They’ve set a fantastic example this week and I have a super first impression of them all. I feel really lucky to be teaching them for the rest of this year, and I’m really excited about what lies ahead! Thank you all!

Georgiana is Class 5's Star this week for the resilience and maturity she has shown in her reading journey. Through lots of thoughtful conversations and reflection, Georgiana has made a brilliant decision to choose books towards the middle or lower end of her ZPD range. This has made a huge difference to her confidence and enjoyment, and she has rediscovered her love of reading. Even more impressively, she is now achievinregular 100% scores on her quizzes, showing just how well she understands what she is reading.

Georgiana’s determination, honesty, and willingness to adapt her approach are fantastic qualities. I am so proud of the mature choices she has made and the progress she is continuing to show — well done, Georgiana!

Victoria: has truly shone this term with her outstanding creativity and artistic talent. Her recent bottle-top design was selected as the best in Class 5 and across Key Stage 2, and it was proudly submitted to represent our school — a fantastic achievement that reflects her effort and imagination.  Throughout the term, Victoria has continued to build on the skills she developed during our landscape and cityscape art topic in Autumn 1, using them to create the most beautiful Christmas card. Her attention to detail, composition, and use of colour really set her work apart. Her classmates were so impressed that they chose her to create an extra Christmas card especially for Mrs Marshall, our new class teacher.

Harriet: has shown incredible determination and perseverance this term. She set herself a personal challenge right from the start: to achieve top marks in her spelling test every single week. Through sheer hard work, focus, and very regular practice, she has continued to grow in confidence — and excitement - as she’s edged closer and closer to her goal.  Harriet has achieved top marks in every single one of the spelling tests so far, and we are all keeping everything crossed that she reaches her goal. Even if she doesn’t quite manage it this week or next, this has been a mighty effort on her part. The commitment she has shown, and the pride she takes in her learning, are truly admirable.  Well done, Harriet — your determination is inspiring, and we are incredibly proud of you, I hope you are proud of yourself too!

Lily: has shown such wonderful growth in her confidence recently, particularly in her reading. She is becoming much more assured during comprehension activities, recognising spelling patterns and using these to support her understanding beautifully.  Where she was once much quieter, Lily is finding her voice in class, sharing her ideas with increasing confidence and enthusiasm. It has been a joy to see her believe in herself and take such proud steps forward in her learning.

Well done, Lily — we are all so impressed with your progress!

Heidi: is an absolute delight to have in the classroom. She is another one of our wonderful “always” children — always doing the right thing, always trying her best, and always showing kindness and thoughtfulness towards others. Truly, she could be Star of the Week every single week. Heidi works hard in all areas of the curriculum and approaches every task with enthusiasm and determination. She is confident when sharing her ideas and contributes beautifully to class discussions, helping to move learning forward for everyone. Her gentle nature, positive attitude, and caring approach make her a much-loved member of our class and a fantastic role model.  Well done, Heidi — we are incredibly proud of you.

Christina is a wonderfully quiet and hardworking member of our class. She always tries her best and gets herself organised for learning quickly, showing a mature and focused approach to every lesson.  She works well with her partner and table group, contributing thoughtfully and supporting others with calm kindness. Christina’s steady effort, positive attitude, and gentle manner make her a real asset to our classroom. Keep doing what you are doing, Christina — we are very proud of you.

Harrison is an absolute delight to have in the classroom. He approaches every task with enthusiasm and determination, always striving to do his very best in all areas of the curriculum. His love of learning shines through everything he does — from the thoughtful questions he asks, to the way he encourages his classmates.   Harrison consistently goes above and beyond with his home learning, showing great pride and creativity in everything he produces. One of his standout projects was a fabulous diorama of the solar system, which was so impressive it inspired some of his classmates to make their own. More recently, Harrison took his curiosity beyond the classroom, going on a nature walk to collect and carefully press flowers and leaves, turning them into a beautiful display that captured his appreciation for the natural world.

Natalia is one of those wonderful “always” children — always in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing. She approaches every school day with a positive attitude and a quiet determination to do her best in everything she takes on. Natalia is polite, kind, and considerate of everyone around her, showing genuine care and thoughtfulness towards her friends and teachers alike. Her impeccable manners and calm, respectful nature make her a real role model for others.   In her learning, Natalia continues to impress with her focus and perseverance. She gives her all in every subject and is especially thriving in maths, where she is working brilliantly with her new partner. Together they explore different ways to approach tricky multiplication and division problems, sharing strategies and celebrating success. What’s more, Natalia’s confidence and understanding are growing so beautifully that she is now supporting her peers, offering help and encouragement with a smile.   Natalia is a shining example of what it means to be a dedicated and caring member of our school community, and we are incredibly proud of her.

Alexander: is being recognised for the mature way he approaches every aspect of school life. He always gives his best in all areas of our learning, listens carefully, and takes responsibility for the high quality of his work. He’s also a really thoughtful friend – kind, supportive, and someone who works hard to make sure everyone feels included. It’s lovely to see how he values his friendships and treats others with such respect and care. We’re really proud of how mature and positive he is every day.

Hugo: has absolutely blown us away with his fantastic reading. His expression, enthusiasm, and clear enjoyment of the story made it an absolute joy to listen to. Hugo brought the text to life with his voice, capturing every emotion and detail beautifully.  What impressed us even more was his ability to tackle some incredibly tricky words with confidence and accuracy — he didn’t hesitate for a moment! Hugo’s love of reading really shone through, and it inspired everyone who heard him. Well done, Hugo — we are so proud of you!

Year 5 stars of the week have been nominated by Miss Burgoyne after the residential.

Sonia: Her kind, caring attitude and thoughtful behaviour during the residential made a huge difference to all the staff and children.  She checked everyone had slept well, offered to braid the other girl’s hair and checked how all the teachers were doing, every day.  She also made a point of saying thank you for cooking and looking after us, after every meal.

Vicky: her inquisitive nature shone throughout the trip.  She was taking pictures of things she was curious about and having some really interesting conversations with her friends and teachers alike.  She made the most of the wonderful opportunities available to her whilst in Hathersage and was an absolute delight to take.

Harri - has a double award for recognition of her superb reading ability.  At the end of last academic year, she excelled in her Star Reading Assessment, unfortunately there was no assembly after the assessment, which meant she missed out on being recognised.  On Wednesday this week, we all completed a new year Star Reading Assessment, and she has blown me away with the level she has achieved.  It is an absolute joy to engage in conversation with Harri about what she is enjoying reading, and I am looking forward to being able to share book recommendations with her in the future.  Well done Harri, I love how much you love reading ðŸ˜Š
