Week 32 - Summer Term - 06 June 2025

Friday 6th June 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

What a wonderful week it has been at school!

We are incredibly proud of the children who take part in Gardening Club with Mrs Wilkinson and our governor, Mr Gray. This week saw the harvest of their hard work – and what a harvest it was! Have you ever seen such a big cabbage? A huge well done to everyone involved.

Behind the scenes, it’s also been a busy week in the office. The school underwent the Local Authority’s five-year financial audit over the course of three days.  Whilst we await the final report, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Miss Fenton, Mrs Ridout and Mrs Hanson for their hard work and diligence throughout the process.

Can you help?
We are on the hunt for a metal box to use as part of our time capsule project. If you have one you no longer need and are willing to donate, please let the office know – we’d be very grateful!
Looking ahead, we’re still gathering donations for the Summer Fair – raffle prizes, tombola items, and other contributions are all welcome. Every penny raised will go directly to benefit the children, and with your support, we’re hoping to make this event a fantastic success!

In other news…

Mrs Dunnicliff was quoted by MP Jo White this week in relation to free school meals.

News from the Classes

Class Reception

This week Class Reception have come back full of enthusiasm for their final half term in Reception. This week they have been learning the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ to support their understanding of the life cycle of a butterfly and are delighted that their ‘caterpillars’ have arrived! They have become great story tellers using their talk for writing actions and map. In maths they have been learning to share equally between groups to making sure it’s fair.

Class One

In History, Class 1 have started learning about ‘Grace Darling’. They were engaged with her story, finding out why she is heroic, and why people remember her. They were using picture clues to find out when the story happened, noticing the wooden boats, and the clothes she wears, suggesting it was a long time ago. After just their first lesson, they were able to recall what Grace Darling did and why she is so special. The children used words to describe Grace Darling, they talked about her being 'heroic', 'brave', 'strong' and 'fearless'. They are already asking many inquisitive questions and are keen to know more about her rescue.

Class Two

This week, Class 2's Australia topic moved on to look at human geography.   The children found out facts about migration and population density.  They were shocked to find out that significantly more people live in the United Kingdom even through Australia is bigger than the whole of Europe.

Class Three

What a busy start to the final half-term in Class 3! This week the children have started the next unit in Maths exploring shape and angles. The children have identified what an angle is and worked out how a shape/object has moved using turns. In English, the children have made a great start on the next writing unit; a narrative ending for a volcano eruption. They are using ‘Escape from Pompeii’ as their reference and building up to create their own version in an independent piece. For Science, the children have been investigating the strength of different magnets. This task saw small groups work together to set up an experiment using paperclips, magnets and rulers to test the strength of different magnets. The children had to read measurements accurately and record in a table to draw conclusions. Finally, the children have been working hard on their sewing skills to finish their art projects inspired by various artists using paint and thread.

Class Four

It has been lovely to welcome Class 4 back to their final half term in class. The week started with a rugby workshop delivered by Lions Academy in partnership with Worksop Rugby club. The children participated in lots of different games to develop their rugby skills, they all had a fantastic time and are looking forward to their future sessions. In science, year 4 were tasked with grouping organisms in a variety of different ways. They needed to look closely at the characteristics of each living thing to sort them effectively into different groups. In maths, year 4 have started their unit on shape, looking at the different types of angles and comparing and ordering them.

Class Five

Class 5 has spent much of this week working towards the ‘Archbishop’s Young Leader Award’. A thought-provoking discussion about inspirational people included those such as Simon Weston who has had the courage to use challenging circumstances for the good of others. The pupils were visibly moved by the people they learnt about, understanding that for some they have been agents of change from a young age. Thanks to Claire Bishop for supporting the class on their walk around the locality, which will be used as inspiration for the community project.

In maths, the children completed their unit on fractions before using place value knowledge to calculate with decimals to 2 decimal places. On her governor visit, Mrs. Hayes was delighted with the way the pupils were able to talk about what they have learnt and how their confidence has grown.

Class Six

Class 6 have had a busy start back. They have started a new piece of writing this week, based on a clip called 'Broken' which tells the story of ‘Rock, Paper and Scissors’. The children have loved gathering vocabulary and creating dialogue. Then on Tuesday this week, the children were privileged to have a Mr Smith come in, who works for Parliament, and learn all about the Houses, and how a Bill is debated and passed. They were able to role play and one child even became 'Speaker' of the House. Some children have also been to an orienteering competition this week, which they enjoyed. Children have started athletics in PE and of course the play practice has begun.

Prayers from Class 6

Dear God,
As we begin this final half term of the academic year, we thank You for the journey so far – For the lessons learned, the friendships formed, and the growth we’ve experienced.

Grant us focus and determination as we face our last stretch.

Help our teachers as they guide us, and our classmates as we work together.

May we finish this year with courage, kindness, and integrity.

Bless our efforts, keep us safe, and help us to be grateful for each day.

Let this final term be a time of achievement, joy, and reflection.
Amen.

With my very best wishes,

Mrs Middleton & the St Anne’s Team
