Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome back to all of our children, families and staff as we begin another exciting academic year.  We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful summer break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.

A special welcome to our new Reception children and their families. It has been a delight to see them settle into school life so positively. They have already shown great enthusiasm and confidence, and we are thrilled to welcome them as part of our fabulous school community. It's a welcome to:

We are also pleased to welcome Mrs Wilbraham and Miss Hatfield to our staff team this year. Through their involvement with school last year, we know they will be fantastic additions to the school and we look forward to the contribution they will make to our children's learning and development.

Thank you to all parents and carers for continuing to work in partnership with us. We truly value your support and the positive relationships we have with our families. Working together helps us provide the very best opportunities for our children and enables them to thrive both academically and personally.

Over the summer holidays, a great deal of work took place around school to improve our learning environment. We are delighted to have new carpets in both the Reception and Class 1 classrooms, along with new lighting in Class 1 and the new decking in the pond area.

This term we have introduced a new school meal provider. Not only are meals nearly 50p per day cheaper than the previous supplier would be pricing this term, but the portion sizes and variety of food available have also increased. It is still early days, but the children's feedback has been extremely positive and they are enjoying the expanded menu options. The timelines to implement this for the start of term have been challenging and we are still ironing out some elements with the company - so we ask for your patience.

Please ensure you book your child’s choice of pudding along with their dinner – this is important in getting the numbers correct.

School Garden

Our school gardening project has also got off to a fantastic start. Under the guidance, wisdom and expertise of Mr Gray and Mrs Wilkinson, our gardeners are set for the year ahead. They have kept on top of everything over the summer (many thanks!) and we even have a 'squash'! At the end of term we were delighted with a further award from RHS, gaining level 4. Thank you to all involved.

Pond Area

We have a lovely pond area onsite (fully secure) but provides a wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with the natural world.  This has also received a revamp over the summer, with new decking to increase safe accessibility and a good clear out

Congratulations to our new Class 6 leaders. As the oldest pupils in the school, they have an important responsibility to be positive role models for younger children and uphold our school values. We know they will rise to the challenge and make us proud.

We are equally excited to see what our School Council achieves this year. They have an important voice within our school community, and we look forward to supporting them as they lead new initiatives and help make a positive difference for their fellow pupils.

This half term, our whole-school value is Perseverance. Perseverance means continuing to work hard, even when something is difficult or does not go as planned the first time. It encourages us to keep trying, learn from our mistakes and never give up on our goals.

As a school, we will be exploring how perseverance helps us to grow as learners, friends and members of our community. Whether it is mastering a new skill, solving a tricky problem or supporting others through challenges, perseverance helps us to achieve more than we thought possible. We are drawn to the words in Galatians 6:9 - "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up".

We know our Year 6 have only just become Year 6 however the NCC Applications for Secondary School is now open. Nottinghamshire County Council strongly urges you to list four separate schools. Do not make the mistake of listing only your top choice; doing so will not guarantee a place and can result in your child being allocated a school far from home.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

We will be hosting our Annual Macmillan Coffee Afternoon on Friday 25^th September at 2.30pm. Please join us if you can in the school hall. We would be grateful as always for donations of cakes and raffle prizes. Thank you

A few reminders as we begin the new term:

• School logo uniform for the cardigan/sweatshirt, polo shirt and pe t shirt
• Grey trousers, skirt or pinafore
• Blue shorts for pe
• Black school shoes.
• No jewellery other than stud earrings - to be removed on swimming days

Branded uniform is available online from www.logoleisurewear.co.uk or 'preloved' can be found at The Uniform Bank – located at The Basement at the Golden Ball, 3 Victoria Square, Worksop, S80 1DX (open Tuesday and Wednesdays 10.00-12.00.  Many of the local supermarkets have a number of deals at the moment.

• Snacks at break - fruit only. We are a nut free school.
• We will reintroduce 'snacks' as soon as possible through our provider.
• The school day begins at 8.50am and ends at 3.20pm. Please ensure your child arrives at school and is ready to enter by 08:50am. If arriving after 08:50am, please use the Harrington entrance and sign in with the iPad by the door.  The iPad records the number of minutes late on the register.  Any child arriving after 09:05am will be marked with a U code for unauthorised absence. 
• We encourage where possible, appointments to be made outside of the school day but recognise that this is not always possible.

As we begin this new school year, we thank You for the opportunities that lie before us. Bless our children as they learn, grow and make new friendships. Help them to be kind, curious and courageous in all that they do. Bless our staff as they teach, guide and care for every child. Give them wisdom, patience and joy in their work. Bless our families and school community. Help us to work together with understanding, encouragement and respect. When learning is difficult, help us to persevere. When we face challenges, give us strength. When we succeed, help us to be thankful and humble. May our school be a place where everyone feels welcomed, valued and loved. Guide us throughout this year so that we may grow in knowledge, confidence and faith.
