Summer 32: Friday 12 June 2026
“Developing the whole child, spiritually, mentally and physically in a caring Christian environment through close links to the Church and Community”
Friday 12th June 2026
Dear Parents/Carers,
This week has been another busy and successful one across school, with many of our children taking part in important statutory assessments. Our Class 1 pupils have approached their statutory phonics screening with enthusiasm and determination, whilst Class 4 children have been completing the Multiplication Tables Check. In Class 2, children have also been engaging with optional assessment papers, which provide valuable information to support teacher assessment and help us celebrate the progress they have made throughout the year.
As we move through the final half-term, our focus remains firmly on consolidating, applying and celebrating the knowledge and skills your child has developed over the course of the year. Alongside this, we will begin supporting children with transition activities to help them feel confident and excited about the next stage of their school journey.
Class Teacher Arrangements for Next Year
- Reception: Miss Robinson
- Class 1: Miss DeCouto
- Class 2: Miss McDonald and Mrs Stocks
- Class 3: Miss Burgoyne
- Class 4: Miss Broughton
- Class 5: Mr Flockhart
- Class 6: Mrs Marshall
On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of meeting our new September intake families, and it was wonderful to begin welcoming them into our school community. We are very much looking forward to having them on board. Children joining Reception will begin their visits next week, whilst our current Reception children will start getting to know Miss DeCouto as part of their own transition journey. Whole-school transition activities will take place at the beginning of July, giving all pupils an opportunity to spend time in their new classrooms and prepare for the year ahead.
Looking ahead, we are excited for Sports Day (weather permitting!). We kindly ask that children come to school wearing a T-shirt in their allocated house colour so that teams can be easily identified as they move around the field. As always, the day will include a wonderful balance of collaborative activities, fun races and healthy competition, with plenty of opportunities for teamwork and encouragement.
Last night, we enjoyed a fantastic evening at our bi-annual Talent Show, filled with smiles, laughter and incredible performances. Standing in front of an audience takes real courage, and we were so proud of every child who took part. We were treated to an array of talents including comedy, singing, dancing and even impressive judo demonstrations, to name just a few! Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event—funds raised go directly towards enriching opportunities and experiences for all of our children.
Finally, a gentle reminder regarding illness procedures: if your child experiences an upset stomach or diarrhoea, they must remain at home and be clear of symptoms for 48 hours following the last episode before returning to school. This helps us minimise the spread of illness and keep everyone healthy.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to another exciting week ahead.

News from the Classes
Reception
This week, Class Reception enjoyed their final Forest School session. The children had a wonderful time paddling in the river with their nets, catching fish and a wide range of river minibeasts, before finishing the session with some exciting duck races. In class, they have been learning about a variety of minibeasts, thinking carefully about what makes them similar and different. The children have also been eagerly watching our caterpillars grow from tiny caterpillars into much larger ones, and we are all looking forward to seeing what happens in their next stage.

Class One
This week in Science, Class 1 have been learning all about the five senses. The children explored how they use their eyes, ears, hands, nose and mouth to understand the world around them.
They enjoyed taking part in hands-on investigations, especially using their sense of smell to explore mystery objects. The children described what they could smell using words such as sweet, spicy, fresh and fruity, and made thoughtful guesses about what the items might be.
The class also took part in their Phonics Screening Check, and Miss DeCouto wants them to know just how proud she is of them all, they were super readers!
Class Two
This week, Class 2 have worked incredibly hard as they have been completing some of their SATs papers and should be very proud of the resilience and determination they have shown. Alongside this, the children enjoyed a carousel of engaging activities including programming with ScratchJr, Fluency Bee activities, phonics games and crafting. In Geography, the children continued to explore Australia, working collaboratively with a partner to research one of Australia’s states or territories and gather information for a presentation. The children have also thoroughly enjoyed their gymnastics session with Emma, building on and mastering the skills they have been learning throughout the term.
Class Three
This week, Class 3 have continued to build their understanding of time in Maths. The children have been learning to tell the time using a.m. and p.m., as well as revising the days of the week and months of the year and the numbers of days in each. In English, the class have been focusing on the use of adverbs and conjunctions to enhance their diary writing. The children have explored how these features can add detail, improve sentence structure and help make their writing more engaging for the reader. In Science, Class 3 have been investigating light and reflection. They have learned how light reflects from surfaces and enables us to see objects. As part of their scientific enquiry, the children tested a variety of materials to determine which were the most reflective, making predictions and recording their observations. In Geography, the children have been exploring the human and physical geography of the United Kingdom. They have discussed the differences between natural features, such as mountains and rivers, and human-made features, including cities, roads and landmarks. In RE, Class 3 have been learning about Moses as a significant figure in Judaism and Christianity. They have explored key stories from his life and discussed why he was considered an inspirational leader who guided and helped others. In Music, the children have been developing their composition skills by creating their own musical pieces. They carefully selected notes and rhythms to compose their own melodies and are now working on performing their compositions on the glockenspiel, following their written notation with increasing confidence and accuracy.
Class Four
This week, the children in Class 4 impressed everyone with their thoughtful and mature contributions during their RE lessons on the story of Creation. Through a rich combination of poetry, imaginative storytelling and Bible readings, they explored what Christians might learn from this important biblical account. The depth of discussion was truly remarkable, with pupils reflecting on themes such as stewardship, respect, trust and responsibility. They considered how the story of Creation encourages people to care for the world and for one another, demonstrating excellent reasoning skills and a genuine willingness to engage with complex ideas. The maturity and insight shown throughout the lesson were phenomenal, and the children should be incredibly proud of the respect and thoughtfulness they brought to their learning.
Class Five
This week, Class 5 continued their work on decimals in Maths, with a particular focus on understanding the importance of zero as a placeholder. In Reading, the children developed their inference skills by exploring clues within texts to deepen their understanding. They also used their knowledge of ‘Who Let the Gods Out’ to create realistic and engaging quotes for inclusion in their newspaper reports. In PE, the class thoroughly enjoyed using a range of apparatus during Gymnastics lessons, demonstrating increasing confidence and control in their movements. During PSHE, pupils discussed their personal relationships with technology and reflected on their own screen time habits. In RE, the children explored the lyrics of ‘The Lord of the Dance’, using them to consider what Jesus is like as a King and to share their own ideas about the nature of the Kingdom of God.

Class 5 enjoyed a lively and enriching Ancient Greek Experience Day, diving into the world of Gods and Goddesses and discovering how they shaped ancient beliefs. Pupils brought famous legends to life as they acted out myths such as Medusa, before using their imagination to craft their own magical myths filled with heroes, monsters and enchanted objects. They also explored the origins of democracy, debating and voting on classroom issues just as citizens once did in Athens. In the spirit of the Ancient Olympic Games, the children took part in a standing long jump competition, showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The day concluded with a fun and fast‑paced quiz that tested their growing knowledge of Ancient Greek life, culture and storytelling. Class Six
Class 6 have had another fantastic week with a wide range of exciting learning experiences. In English, the children have been building up to writing an explanation text based on the circulatory system, developing their understanding and applying their writing skills effectively. In maths, the focus has been on consolidating key skills, with pupils working hard to strengthen their confidence and accuracy across different areas. In science, the class carried out an investigation into heart rate and pulse, enjoying the opportunity to work scientifically and draw conclusions from their findings. In music, the children have been using the GarageBand app to compose their own pieces, showing creativity and exploring different sounds and rhythms. Alongside this, we have begun rehearsals for the school production, with great enthusiasm and teamwork already on display.
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week
