Spring 23: Friday 13 March 2026
Friday 13th March 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a wonderful week in school, with our curriculum provision very much at the forefront of teaching and learning. As part of National Science Week, Miss Burgoyne, our Science Lead, worked closely with the whole staff team to create a range of exciting science investigations across the school. Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to join us for the class workshops—there were certainly scientists of the future amongst our children!
I was particularly fascinated to hear the children’s discussions around fusion energy, especially given recent conversations happening within the Bassetlaw area. Opportunities like these help nurture curiosity, critical thinking, and an awareness of the wider world.
We were also delighted to welcome the planetarium back into school this week. Designated classes had the opportunity to step inside and deepen their knowledge of space and the universe - always a highlight for pupils and staff alike.
Classes 1 and 2 enjoyed a visit to the library to watch a production of ‘Along Came a Magpie’. The children returned full of enthusiasm, and it was wonderful to hear how much they enjoyed the experience.
This week, members of our Finance and Personnel Governor Committee met to plan the school budget. Their focus is ensuring that we can continue to support our Whole School Vision of “Developing the whole child spiritually, mentally, and physically within a caring Christian environment.” Through careful strategic planning and resourcing, we aim to maintain the highest quality of education and pastoral support for all our pupils.
A big thank you to our FOSAS members for organising and running the Mother’s Day Gift Stall, and thank you to all who purchased items. Your support helps raise valuable funds for the school, and the children have loved choosing something special.
With Mother’s Day approaching, did you know that its origins lie in Mothering Sunday? Traditionally, this was a day when individuals returned to their “mother church,” often bringing their families together in celebration. Over time, the day evolved into one where people gave thanks to the maternal figures in their lives - something we still cherish today.
We would like to wish all the special ladies in our school community a very happy and peaceful day.
Finally, today some of our Year 6 pupils took part in filming marketing materials for LifeSkills. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their confidence and communication skills while supporting a resource that plays a valuable role in children’s development.
Football Squad
There was a good turnout for training on Monday and then this led to an enthusiastic team heading to Holy Family on the Thursday night. In the driving rain after a shaky start, the team got into their stride and all worked well together to come away with a 6-1 win. Each and every one played their part. Well done to all. Thank you to the parents who came to support.
Wishing you all a restful weekend.

Please remember pre-booking on Arbor is essential to enable the school to plan for adult/child ratios. If you phone on the day, we may be unable to offer you a place as ratios need to be arranged in advance.
Arbor
All bookings for Wraparound Care—both Breakfast and After-School Club—must be made in advance on Arbor. It is crucial that you adhere to this policy. Only in emergencies should bookings be made via the Office. If you encounter such a situation, please ring the office directly rather than emailing, as emails may not be picked up in time.
If your child receives music lessons in school, you will find the fee for these under ‘trips’ on Arbor – please ensure you make full payment for this term before the end of term.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
News from the Classes
Reception
This week, Class Reception were introduced to their new traditional tale, The Three Little Pigs, which has helped support their learning about different materials. The children have shown great enthusiasm as they explored what materials are used for and identified a range of examples in their environment. As part of Science Week, the class enjoyed a session in the planetarium, where they learned about nocturnal animals and discovered more about the stars in the night sky. The children also took part in the whole-school biscuit investigation, where they confidently recapped their knowledge of what makes a fair test. They used wonderful scientific vocabulary to make predictions and shared their observations over time.
Class One
This week, Class 1 visited the mobile planetarium to expand their knowledge of Space and support their history learning. They looked at the first astronauts in Space and shared their own knowledge, even teaching the visit leader new information such as what Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took to the moon with them. They enjoyed looking at the stars and listened to a story about the constellations.
Class 1 also visited the library with Class 2 to watch a theatre production of 'Along Came a Magpie'. The children really enjoyed the story and there were lots of smiles and giggles throughout.
Class Two
The children this week have had another busy week, working hard on problem solving in maths, as well as learning what an array is and completing them for our 2 and 5 timetables. In English, the children have been busy working on their non-chronological reports. Music has seen Class 2 work on what the beat is, as well as clapping and tapping to the beat. Our gymnastics lesson with Emma was so fun this week, we learnt how to do a teddy bear roll and got to practice using a hoop on our wrists. We’ve been on a walk to the library this week and watched a performance from a local theatre company, they were excellent actors and said hardly any words and just showcased their talents with their facial expressions and body language, we were so impressed in year 2. I am sure next week will be just as fun and busy for us.
Class Three
Class 3 have had a busy week this week, enjoying activities from Science Week. On Monday the children welcomed their grownups to class, to join them in their science workshop. The children had been learning about fusion energy and were tasked with building their own tokamak. There were some fantastic designs and teamwork from each group. On Wednesday, the children then continued their Science Week learning with a biscuit dunking investigation, to find out which biscuit was best for dunking. They grouped biscuits based on their properties and then timed how long it took each biscuit to break when dunked. Class 3 found out that the best biscuit for dunking was a Rich Tea. To finish off Science Week, Class 3 enjoyed spending time within the planetarium building on their knowledge of space from Class 1. In maths, Class 3 have been working hard on their fractions learning, looking at equivalent fractions and spotting patterns within the equivalent fractions.
Class Four
During Science Week, the children enthusiastically took part in a range of exciting and engaging activities that sparked their curiosity and love of learning. One highlight of the week was welcoming parents into the classroom to support the children in exploring the concept of fusion energy, through a hands-on activity that incorporated their knowledge of electricity by building simple circuits. The children also thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the mobile planetarium, where they had the opportunity to explore the wonders of space and learn more about planets, stars, and our solar system in an immersive environment. Another favourite activity was the biscuit experiment, where the children investigated how the temperature of a liquid affects how long a biscuit can be dunked before it breaks apart. Throughout the week, the pupils showed fantastic enthusiasm, teamwork, and scientific curiosity, making Science Week a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Class Five
What a busy week the children have had this week! They have really enjoyed all of their work for National Science Week. They had a visit to the mobile Planetarium where they had a Greek Mythology workshop, learning all about the Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses and what planets they named after them. This was really interesting and gave then a great start for our Learning coming up in the Summer Term. It was great to see all of the constellations on the inside of the planetarium as well. The children welcomed some of our grown-ups into school this week as well, to learn about Fusion Energy and we worked in groups to create our own Fusion Power Campus; this was quite a tricky thing to do as there were many considerations to take into account. They really enjoyed investigating, ‘Which biscuit will dissolve the quickest’ and now know which are the best dunkers! They continued their Geography learning by looking at physical features of Africa and Egypt, developed their French understanding of clothes and whether items are masculine or feminine and continued looking at the Gospel in RE, where they looked at Luke 7: 1-10, where Jesus heals the Centurions servant. Finally, huge congratulations to all of the children for a fantastic effort and performance with our Class Assembly on Thursday; we are all very proud of you.
Class Six
This week, the children have been diving into different types of learning. In DAaRT, the children explore different types of communication and the importance of non-verbal communication. In maths, they’ve been exploring the area and perimeter of quadrilaterals and triangles, along with sharpening their arithmetic skills along the way. In English, they are crafting narratives inspired by the Mayan story, Rain Player, which has sparked some fantastic creativity. Plus, we were all geared up for Science Week! The children conducted fun investigations involving biscuits and get hands-on with coding using Micro:bits.
Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week
Well done to all pupils who received certificates this week. Your hard work, positive attitudes, and kindness continue to make our school a wonderful place to learn.

Out of School Achievements:
On Sunday, Kyla and Riva took part in the East Midlands Gymnastics Association Regional Grades competition. Grades are competitive pathways designed for gymnasts (typically ages 8+) to develop and showcase skills across all apparatus and our girls were competing against gym clubs from within the whole of the East Midlands. Kyla has competed at Grades 3 times, and this year was Riva's first time!
Riva competed Preparation 1 (8 years) and Kyla competed Development 1 (11 + 12 years).
Both girls had a clean comp and did fantastically well! Riva came 1st Beam, 1st Bars, 2nd Range & Conditioning and 2nd Vault and 6th Floor. This meant that she gained a distinction and came 1st overall, out of 81 gymnasts, and became the East Midlands Regional Preparation 1 Champion!!!
Kyla also had a fantastic competition, placing 1st beam, gained a Commendation and finished 13th overall out of 25 gymnasts.

I would like to share some good news with the school. Cassie (5) won First Prize in the Grade 3 Piano class at the Worksop Music & Drama Festival 2026 this Sunday. The piece she performed was Always With Me by Youmi Kimura. The historic trophy that has been passed down since 1952.
Harriet R (6) first place in her category of piano where there were 9 entrants. Her piece as amazing and a special mention to big sister Bea (ex pupil) who came second

Attendance
Thank you for supporting strong attendance and punctuality. Every day in school makes a positive difference.
Regular attendance and good punctuality are vital for children to achieve their best. The doors open for KS2 children slightly earlier to enable families with younger children to walk around to KS1. The official start of the day is 8:50 am. If your child arrives after this time, please bring them through the main entrance so that all other external doors are closed promptly and we can secure the site.
Prayers from – Jacob & Joshua (6)
Dear God,
Please help us to defend human liberty and help us to live peacefully. Amen.
Dear God,
May we thank you for the gift of free will and the capacity to make my own choices. Amen.
With my very best wishes for the weekend,
Mrs Middleton & the St Anne’s Team
