Spring 21: Friday 27 February 2026
Friday 27th February 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely to see the children after the half-term break. Monday’s worship enabled us as a school community to think of the Christian calendar and the period of ‘Lent’. Children were further encouraged to complete 40-days of kindness and to share those acts with us.
This half-term is a short one, and one in which we encourage all children to be ‘the very best that they can be’. Please support your child in helping them to practise their reading, spellings and timetables as well as their homework projects. Don’t forget our early morning ‘Reading Wednesdays’ – come and share a book with your child. Doors open at 8.40am.
Inset Day
Have you ever wondered what our staff do on an inset day? Well, let me give you an insight into our last one! Our wonderful office team, including Mrs Middleton, Mrs Brightman, and Mrs Ridout, ventured to join the Mitre Trust for a fantastic inset day focussed on the wonders of AI in the school setting. They explored how AI can not only save time in the office, but also discussed the precautions we need to take, especially regarding the kind of information we might share. It's all about harnessing the benefits while being mindful of the risks!
Meanwhile, our teaching staff participated in an inspiring workshop on teaching music in school. This valuable session has truly enriched their skills and will enhanced the learning environment for our children.
And that's not all! Our Teaching Assistants have been busy refreshing the displays around school, showcasing our students' remarkable work to continue inspiring them. Be sure to take a peek next time you’re in school—you won’t be disappointed! A few weeks ago, we were gifted some ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ figures from Harley Gallery and they now form part of a display in the entrance.

Hot Off the Press!
We are over the moon to share some fantastic news with you! Our school swimmers have just won the Worksop schools heats for the Nottinghamshire Schools Swimming Gala! 🎉 This splendid achievement means that they will be sailing straight through to the final later in the year. What a brilliant accomplishment for our swimmers! Please join us in celebrating this victory, and cheer on our stars at the finals.
Bassetlaw Behaviour Partnership
Kerry from Bassetlaw Behaviour Partnership will be visiting our school on Monday 2nd March from 8:30 am. Kerry is an expert in all things related to parenting and can offer help and advice on behaviour and family life. If you would like to see Kerry, there is no need to book just come to the school office.
Breakfast Club
We have noticed that some children are coming across the playground from the Church Car Park or Devonshire Street on their own. Whilst we appreciate you might be in a rush to get to work, it is essential that you bring your child to the Hall door to be greeted by a member of staff. We cannot have children turning up unaccompanied and will monitor this situation closely.

Please remember pre-booking on Arbor is essential to enable the school to plan for adult/child ratios. If you phone on the day, we may be unable to offer you a place as ratios need to be arranged in advance.
Arbor
All bookings for Wraparound Care—both Breakfast and After-School Club—must be made in advance on Arbor. It is crucial that you adhere to this policy. Only in emergencies should bookings be made via the Office. If you encounter such a situation, please ring the office directly rather than emailing, as emails may not be picked up in time.
If your child receives music lessons in school, you will find the fee for these under ‘trips’ on Arbor – please ensure you make full payment for this term before the end of term.
Thank you for your attention to these important matters.
Help needed!
Our wonderful eco-club is on the lookout for any spare bits of wood, pallets, or pipes that could be used to create bug hotels and bird boxes. If you have any items to spare, your donations would be warmly welcomed!
Additionally, our Reception Class has some aging ‘ride on’ coupe cars that are ready to retire due to their weary wheels. If you happen to have a similar toy car in your garage that you no longer need, we would love to give it a new home!
Thank you for your continued support of our school community!
News from the Classes
Reception
Reception children have been learning the Traditional Tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children have been enjoying retelling the story through a song with actions, helping them to remember the sequence of events. In Maths, the class have been learning about length. They have been comparing longer and shorter objects and thinking carefully about how placing objects at the same starting point helps them to compare accurately. In PE, the children have started their dance unit - they have been sequencing different movements to nursery rhymes and have enjoyed expressing themselves through movement.
Class One
This week, Class 1 have started their science unit about plants. Miss Burgoyne visited them, bringing along her microscopes. The children have spent all week looking closely at seeds from a variety of plants, they spent time looking at them through the microscope and deciding on ‘wondering questions’ about the seeds. The children asked 'I wonder what this seed will grow in to' and 'I wonder if all seeds are small'. They are looking forward to exploring seeds further and finding out what they grow in to.
Class Two
In Class two, the children have started to look at their new topic in maths of multiplication and division, they’ve focused on looking at equal and unequal groups and what they can do to make the unequal groups, equal again. In English, they have been delving deep into their non-chronological reports. In Science, they have been exploring ‘living things and their habitats’. They have been so excited this week as Emma has been in for our gymnastics lessons, this week their focus has been on balancing and forward rolls. In their topic lessons, they have started to look at their newspaper reports on the Creswell mining disaster. They have had a jam-packed learning filled fun week!
Class Three
Class 3 have had a fantastic and busy start to the term! In Maths, the children have been working hard on fractions, learning how to recognise and compare fractions. In History, the children have been exploring the Romanisation of Britain, with a particular focus on Roman villas and the changes the Romans brought to Britain, including new buildings, roads and ways of life. In PE, the children have started their dance unit and are already beginning to develop their movement skills and confidence in performing. In English, Class 3 have begun preparing to write their own diary entries, thinking carefully about language, structure and how to express thoughts and feelings clearly
Class Four
This week in Class 4, pupils have been developing their reading skills through a focused study of ‘How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell’. As part of this work, the class created a semantic map for the word hero, helping them to think carefully about the qualities they would expect from the main character, Hiccup, as the story unfolds. They also explored the author’s deliberate choice of vocabulary, discussing the impact of powerful words such as berserk, savage, bleak and preposterously, and how these choices help to build atmosphere, humour and deepen the reader’s understanding of the text.
Class Five
In Class 5 this week, the children have enjoyed starting their Gym sessions with Emma, as well as learning the Haka in their dance session! They have been working hard to convert decimals and fractions involving tenths, hundredths and thousandths in maths, and have started their new text for this half-term, ‘Egyptian Cinderella’. Watch this space as they begin to write their own narratives! The children have enjoyed looking at the similarities and differences between Egyptian Cinderella and the traditional fairy-tale. They have started their new topic in French about clothes and found it really interesting to make connections between some French, Polish and Romanian words. They have enjoyed an investigation into water resistance in science, where they looked at which shape would fall to the bottom of a measuring cylinder the quickest and why. They also looked at how water resistance is helpful and unhelpful in everyday life.
Class Six
This week in Class 6, the children are starting to build up a narrative by exploring the fascinating Maya story of the ‘Rain Player’, where they’ll focus on writing a vivid setting description. In maths, they will be getting their heads around fractions, decimals, and percentages, making sure everyone understands how they all connect. In science, they are beginning to explore the classification of living things in more depth, which should spark some interesting discussions! Plus, the children are completing some SAT’s practice to help them prepare for the upcoming assessments.

Regular attendance and good punctuality are vital for children to achieve their best. The doors open for KS2 children slightly earlier to enable families with younger children to walk around to KS1. The official start of the day is 8:50 am. If your child arrives after this time, please bring them through the main entrance so that all other external doors are closed promptly and we can secure the site.
Prayers from – Ava and Nicole (6)
Dear God
Please help us to have the perseverance and resilience to sacrifice something we love or enjoy in honour of lent. Give us the strength to carry and complete this 40-day challenge.
Amen
Dear God,
Please help us to be kind to people during Lent and to think of others who have less than us.
Amen
With my very best wishes for the weekend,
Mrs Middleton & the St Anne’s Team
