Autumn 11: Friday 28 November 2025

“Developing the whole child, spiritually, mentally and physically in a caring Christian

Environment through close links to the Church and Community”

                                                                                         Friday 28th November 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

A group of our children embraced the festive spirit on Saturday as they sang their hearts out at the town’s Christmas Light Switch-On. A huge thank-you to Miss Broughton and to all the parents who supported the event.

As we began the week, our School Ambassadors proudly welcomed the beautiful Christmas tree gifted to us by North Notts BID – a wonderful reminder of community generosity. Our KS1 corridors are now filled with boxes of nativity costumes as staff encourage children to explore their roles. We are very much looking forward to the performances in the coming weeks.

Our full Governing Body met this week for the termly meeting, where the business and performance of the school were reviewed.  Mrs Hayes, one of our Governors, also met with Miss DeCouto, our Maths Lead, to discuss the current provision in school and will report back to the Governing Body in due course.

Our School Council and a group of Class 6 pupils are partnering with the Old Vicarage Nursing Home this Christmas. They hope to surprise each resident (29 of them) with a personalised Christmas bag. Please see below for details on how you can help support this lovely initiative.

Donations of:

  • Small boxes of chocolates
  • Biscuits
  • Toiletries
  • Hand creams
  • Socks
  • Gloves

Appointments

We appreciate how challenging it can be to secure dental appointments; however, we kindly ask that appointments during the school day are kept to a minimum, as they can be disruptive to learning. Likewise, whilst we fully support festive celebrations, we ask that Christmas events be planned outside of school hours as school attendance is statutory.

Finally, a reminder that children must remain off school for 48-hours after the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea to help prevent the spread of illness in the hope that our school community is well for the Christmas holiday.

Packed Lunches

We would like to address some important concerns regarding the content of lunch boxes being brought to school by our pupils.

As you know, our school is a nut-free site. This policy extends beyond just whole nuts and includes most chocolate spreads as well. We want to ensure that all students can enjoy their lunch without the risk of allergic reactions.

Additionally, it is important that lunch boxes provide enough nourishment to keep children energised throughout the school day.  There should be no glass bottles, cans, sweets or fizzy drinks.

The NHS has a great website for lunchbox ideas: https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes/

Snacks provided for children to have at breaktime should not include chocolate and crisps.  A school snack would ideally include a piece of fruit.  Please let your child know what their snack is, as we are seeing children take items that are ‘lunch items’ earlier in the day. Please remember that children in Class Reception, Class 1 and 2 have a piece of school fruit each morning.  Milk is also available for free until they are five and then at a small cost – please contact www.coolmilk.com if you want your child to have milk.

Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your continued support in creating a safe and healthy environment for everyone at our school.

Bag2School – Bags and Shoes – bring to school on Tuesday 9 December.

Please fill your bag (sent home a couple of weeks ago) with all unwanted textiles – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags and soft toys, (please refer to https://bag2school.com for full details). In addition to raising much needed funds, it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.

Bag2School will be collecting from St Anne’s School on:

Tuesday 9th December ONLY

Please do not bring bags before this date as we have nowhere to store them.

News from the Classes

Reception

Class Reception have continued their learning around the topic of People Who Help Us. This week, the children thoroughly enjoyed a special visit from the RNLI. They were fascinated to learn about the important role the lifeboat crew play in keeping people safe, and how we can all stay safe around water. The children listened carefully, asked thoughtful questions, and showed great enthusiasm throughout the session. Alongside this, Reception have been busy beginning to learn their Nativity and they are very excited to continue practising for our performance.

Class One

On Friday, Class 1 received a visit from the local firefighters to further enhance their learning about the Great Fire of London.  The children had an opportunity to learn all about the fire engine, comparing the tools they use now to what they used in 1666. They had an opportunity to sit inside the fire engine and see the lights flashing.  In class, the firefighters talked to them about the Great Fire of London and how different it is today. They talked about how to stay safe and what to do if there is a fire. The firefighters were prepared to answer the many questions the children had for them too.

Class Two

Class 2 have been working this week on speaking their lines for the nativity play really clearly and trying to remember when to get on and off stage (which is not easy).  They have also written their diary entries pretending to be a person in Victorian London when the 'Great Stink' happened! They have produced some wonderful pieces of writing showing off their 'est' words and their use of the personal pronoun! In Computing, Class 2 have been looking at portrait and landscape and taking pictures and saying why it is better one way and giving reasons.  In PE, we’ve been working on volleying and rallying skills, children have found these skills really fun to learn.

Class Three

Class 3 have had a busy week this week.  In science, the children were asking scientific questions and planning their own enquiry as a group to answer their question. In music, the children composed their own tal rhythm which they wrote on the board for the rest of the class to read and play.  In maths, the children have started their unit of learning on multiplication and division focusing on grouping and arrays. In PE, Class 3 have been focusing on their orienteering unit, learning how to orientate and follow a map. In whole class reading, Class 3 are enjoying their class text ‘a stolen spear’ and have been using their inference skills to understand the actions of the character.

Class Four

This week in science, the children focussed on working scientifically by asking a range of scientific questions to help them further their learning about sound.  Once they had formed a question they conducted their own experiments in order to answer their question.

Class Five

In mathswe have been exploring square and cube numbers, building on our understanding of number patterns and deepening our reasoning skills. The children have enjoyed investigating how these numbers grow and discussing the patterns they notice.

In English, we have been finishing our poems inspired by ‘Raven from The Lost Words’. The children have worked hard to refine their imagery, using rich vocabulary and poetic devices to bring their ideas to life. Their final pieces are thoughtful, atmospheric, and a real credit to the effort they have put in over the past two weeks.

In geography, we have begun exploring biomes and the different vegetation belts found across the world.  The children have learned to identify and describe major biomes, and this week they have focused on locating the world’s tropical rainforests and discovering some of their key features. Their curiosity and questions have led to some brilliant discussions about climate, wildlife, and the importance of protecting these environments.

Class Six

Class 6 this week, have been consolidating all of their learning so far and experiencing their first round of practice SAT’s papers. The children have had the experience of seeing how the tests will be completed and attempting a previous paper. The children have shown great resilience and perseverance this week, showing what they are capable of.  This will help to personalise their learning moving forward and children are working on their own targets. This week has also been the Class 6 assembly. All the children worked incredibly hard to put together the slides in groups, create their own lines and perform with confidence.

Congratulations to our Stars of the Week this week
