Class 1
24 April 2026
Frederick: has really impressed us this week with his enthusiasm and hard-working attitude. He comes into each day ready to learn, and shows a fantastic focus during our lessons. He has really been enjoying Maths, particularly when counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. He has been using Numicon to represent the numbers as he counts, and is beginning to record them independently, which is lovely to see. In English, he enjoyed learning the story of 'The Snail and the Whale'. He joins in brilliantly with the actions during Talk for Writing, and we love seeing how enthusiastic he is.
Azra: has really grown in confidence this week. She has been a superstar! She comes into school ready to learn each day and is beginning to apply her knowledge across so many different subjects. It has been wonderful to see the progress she is making day-by-day, and the pride she is taking in her work. In Phonics, she is recognising more phonemes and is becoming increasingly confident when reading trickier words. She is doing a fantastic job of spotting digraphs and trigraphs in both real and alien words, and is beginning to read them more fluently. In Maths, her confidence continues to grow as we practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. She is using resources effectively to help her spot patterns in numbers and is beginning to use these patterns to support her when answering questions in her Maths lessons.

Millie: has absolutely blown us away with her incredible reading. Over the past few weeks, we have really seen all of her phonics knowledge click into place, and now we simply can’t get her to stop reading! She approaches books with such enthusiasm, and it is wonderful to see how proud she is of herself. She is now using her decoding skills to segment and blend even the trickier words, showing real determination. It has been especially lovely to see this progress begin to shine through in her writing as well, where she is starting to apply her phonics knowledge more consistently.
Milo: has impressed us in Maths this week. It has been a tricky week learning all about capacity and volume. He quickly understood the difference between capacity and volume, clearly explaining that capacity is how much a container can hold, while volume is the amount inside it. He was able to use this knowledge to compare different volumes and capacities, using his vocabulary with more confidence each time. We were particularly impressed with how he applied his understanding during his Maths lessons, using inequality symbols and identifying how much a container can hold.

Freddie: approaches every lesson with enthusiasm and curiosity, always eager to learn and take on new challenges. He impresses us with the way he can retain and recall knowledge in all his lessons. He is like a sponge, just absorbing all his new learning. We have seen his confidence continue to grow over the year as he becomes more confident in himself and his knowledge. He is such a joy to teach, and sets such a wonderful example. Keep it up Freddie!

13 March 2026
Jack: has truly impressed us this week with his enthusiasm and growing independence. During our visit to the planetarium, he confidently shared his knowledge about Space – recalling facts that he had learnt in his History lessons. He amazed the session leader with both what he knew, and how eager he was to contribute. Back in the classroom, he has shown a real passion for writing. He chose to spend his own time crafting a wonderful story inspired by a picture prompt and using Space as an inspiration.
6 March 2026
Eleanor: has been a super scientist this week. Class 1 have begun exploring plants and learning about the different parts of a plant. She was able to name the four main parts of a plant (stem, leaves, roots and flower) and, by the end of the lesson, could explain the important jobs each part does. She then spent time carefully labelling a carnation during her science lesson, showing a great understanding of what she had learnt. She has enjoyed exploring the different seeds and flowers we have had in class, asking interesting questions and wanting to know more.
Zachary: was really invested in our whole-school book, The Day the Crayons Quit, on World Book Day. He was fascinated by each crayon and couldn’t wait to discover which letter was coming next and how the crayon was feeling. He really impressed us when he wrote his own sentences about the crayons, choosing which crayon he would be and explaining how that crayon felt and why. He then took part in activities around the classroom, such as designing a new crayon and creating pictures using just one colour. It was lovely to see so much enthusiasm from him.
27 February 2026
Maria: is someone who demonstrates all of the St Anne's values. She is a kind, considerate member of our school. You can rely on her to follow our golden rules, because she believes in doing the right thing, and demonstrates great perseverance and respect. She leads by example, showing what it means to be a good role model. We are so proud of the way she represents our school each day!
Florence: has engrossed herself in all things Maths this week. She has been finding the difference between numbers, and using her knowledge and skills to solve tricky missing number problems. She has demonstrated perseverance. We are so pleased with the progress she is making, and the way she can correctly use her Maths vocabulary in lessons.

Kamsi: has already impressed us with his enthusiasm and eagerness to do well. He comes into class ready to learn, and there is rarely a lesson where his hand isn’t raised, keen to have a go and share his ideas or answers. He has also shown great kindness towards his peers, playing happily with others and joining in with games at lunchtime. We are incredibly proud of him and are excited to see him continue to grow and progress.
Szymon: has impressed us in so many ways this week. He has particularly stood out in his reading, confidently segmenting and blending new and unfamiliar words. He shows a real enthusiasm for reading, often asking if he can read next or proudly showcasing his skills during the Phonics sessions. Alongside this, he has been a kind and supportive friend to a new pupil. He always makes time to play with them and helps them find their way around St Anne’s, showing them the hall and where to go throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of him for truly showing the St Anne’s way.
30 January 2026
Phoebe: has impressed us this week with her understanding of instructions, as we prepare to write our own instructions for making a rocket. We have spent a lot of time looking at the use of bossy verbs in our instructions, and Phoebe grasped this really quickly. She spotted imperative verbs in many sets of instructions, and could identify which ones we could use in our set of instructions. She was able to sequence pictures for our instructions, remembering to add numbers for the order. We can't wait to see her completed instructions next week.
James B: has been our Maths whizz this week. He has impressed us with his knowledge of numbers to 20, being able to label them on a number line, estimate where they may be on a number line and use jumps to find the difference between numbers. All of his wonderful knowledge helped him when we moved on to adding numbers up to 20. He was able to count on, recognising which numbers come next, and used counters and tens frames to help find the answer. There is no stopping this Maths superstar!
23 Janaury 2026
Winnie: for her wonderful work in Phonics. She is impressing us each day as she develops her phoneme knowledge and is confidently applying it when she reads. She is becoming a fluent reader, blending accurately and using her decoding skills for trickier, unfamiliar words. She has a wonderful attitude towards phonics, and is becoming more confident about reading aloud in class. Well done Winnie!
Millie: for her fantastic attitude towards her learning. She arrives at school ready and eager to start her day. She has a positive attitude, and she is approaching her learning with great confidence. She is trying her best in all she does, and she should be proud of what she is achieving each day. She is motivated to do well, and she is keen to share her knowledge in small groups. On top of it all, she does this with a wonderfully infectious smile on her face.
16 January 2026
Elsie: this week, Class 1 have started exploring observational drawings as part of their Art. They have been developing their pencil control, practising how to use gentle pressure to create light, careful strokes when sketching. The children have been encouraged to look closely at flora and fauna, focusing on specific areas of detail and noticing shapes, lines and textures. Elsie has particularly impressed us with her sketching, as well as her eye for detail. She took her time to observe the images carefully, looking closely before adding extra features to her drawings. During busy time, she independently chose to study real flowers, using these as inspiration for her sketches. She noticed how the petals of a rose curve and carefully observed the shape and structure of the stems.
Lily-Rose: has been a shining example of our Golden Rules this week, and we are incredibly proud of her. She listens carefully during lessons and follows instructions, showing a positive attitude towards her learning. She has been a wonderful role model to others in the class, setting a great example through her behaviour. She shares resources sensibly, offers help to her peers, and uses kind and positive words with her friends. She should be proud of what she has achieved this week, she has impressed us all in Class 1.
09 January 2026
Penny: has returned to school after the break with great enthusiasm and motivation, and is ready to learn and do her best. She always sits well in class, listening carefully and confidently sharing her ideas. She has shown a real interest in all of our new learning, particularly our topic on Space and our Talk for Writing story, ‘Whatever Next’. She joins in brilliantly with the actions and words and has produced some wonderful sentences sequencing the story.
Eleanor: has returned to school full of enthusiasm and excitement for our new topic on Space. This week, we explored some key questions that link to what we will be learning over the coming weeks, and she engaged with these discussions brilliantly. She asked thoughtful, inquisitive questions and confidently shared what she already knows about Space, showing a real curiosity and willingness to learn. It was wonderful to see her so eager to deepen her understanding and challenge herself further in our History lessons. It is so lovely to see her positive attitude and her love of learning.

Florence B: if you are ever looking for someone to be doing the right thing, this is the person you would look for. We can always rely on Florence to be following our Golden rules and setting an example for others. She is respectful to others, and is the first to offer a hug when someone is upset. She always works hard and tries her best, she is willing to do well in all she does. Even in the chaos of Christmas and nativities, her behaviour never falters, she is a wonderful role model to all, and we can always rely on her to have a positive attitude and to listen well in class. Well done Florence!
12 December 2025
Lily P: has impressed us with her independent writing this week. After watching the BFG Sainsbury's Christmas advert, she spent some time orally composing sentences about what she had seen and thinking about which adjectives best described what she could see in the Christmas scene. She remembered to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops, and used sound mats where she needed to. She showed a different side to us, showing us just how much her confidence has grown over the past few weeks when it comes to writing. Well done Lily, you should be very proud of yourself!
5 December 2025
No star assembly this week.

21 November 2025
Malee-Rose: has blown us away with her confidence and enthusiasm for writing in English. She comes prepared with her sound mats and uses them effectively to support her phonics. When given a choice between two phonemes that make the same sound, she can independently select the correct one, drawing on her understanding of where that sound appears in a word. She is also remembering to use capital letters and full stops, often without any reminders. This week, she has really showcased her growing writing skills, and we are so pleased with the progress she has made. Well done, Malee!
Frederick: Frederick was engaged on the school trip to the Welbeck Estate from start to finish. He was very inquisitive, asking lots of questions and eager to discover more at every stage of the day. He was especially excited when we were introduced to a calf called Sydney, and he showed great enthusiasm while asking questions and having a go at milking the educational model cow. He also loved getting a closer look at the tractors and the combine harvester. When we met Farmer Steve, Frederick was fascinated by the wide range of vegetables on display. He examined them carefully, looking closely, touching them, and making detailed observations, and he confidently talked about his favourite vegetables. We were so impressed by his curiosity and delighted to see just how much he enjoyed the experience.

No star this week due to the school trip.
07 November 2025
Wilf: This week, Class 1 have started a new unit of writing in English, using Talk for Writing, to retell the story of ‘The Queen's Hat’ by Steve Antony. To gain a better understanding of the story, the children came up with questions to ask the Queen about her journey through London. They came up with a variety of question starters, and quickly recognised that questions need to end with a question mark. Wilf came up with some brilliant questions, asking 'Why did you go out in the wind?' and 'How did you feel when your hat blew away?' He was quick to spot when others had forgotten their question marks. We were very proud of what he produced and his understanding of questions.
Zachary: On Tuesday, Class 1 learnt all about the Gunpowder Plot, finding out why we have Bonfire night. Zachary showed great enthusiasm for the whole day. He was keen to share what he already knew, and was able to remember facts about the Gunpowder Plot as we learnt them. He used his knowledge to write about the Gunpowder Plot, and he shared his own fact with his group, that Guy Fawkes provided the guards with the wrong name when they found him. He was keen to make firework pictures and an edible sparkler at the end of the day.

Beau: he has continued to impress us week after week. He takes great joy in making marks and expressing himself through a wide variety of materials — from chalk and pens to paint and pastels. He loves to experiment and isn’t afraid to try new things, using whatever surface he can find to create his artwork, whether it’s the playground, whiteboards, or paper. It has been wonderful to watch his confidence grow as his marks have become more purposeful and detailed over time. We are so proud of the progress he has made and can't wait to see what is next!
Grace: embraces all aspects of her learning. She takes it beyond just the lesson. This week, Class 1 have been learning all about part whole models in Maths, and although a tricky concept at first, we have seen some brilliant progress from the class. However, Grace took it one step further. She spent her busy time making her own part whole models and find different ways to make a number. She spent time drawing her part whole models and drawing counters to find number bonds. Maths isn't the only time we have seen her do this, there are many other examples too, such as in Art where she chooses to make her own spiral marks, or in geography where she chooses to make her own maps. She is always willing to go that one step further and extend her learning. Well done Grace!
10 October 2025
Azra: Wow! This star has blown us away with her Maths learning this week! She has shown a fantastic attitude — always ready to learn, eager to take part in discussions, and keen to show what she knows. We have been especially impressed with her growing confidence in using inequality symbols to compare numbers. She can now clearly explain when a number is greater than, less than, or equal to another, and she’s able to use the correct symbols with accuracy and understanding. It has been wonderful to see her applying this knowledge in different activities and explaining her thinking so clearly to others.
Milo: We definitely have a future gymnast on our hands! Milo has truly shone in gymnastics this week, catching Emma’s attention time and time again with his focus, determination, and impressive skills. From the very start of the lesson, he gave 100% effort, showing real enthusiasm for every challenge that came his way. There were some tricky tasks this week, including front supports, tuck jumps, half spins, and straddle bunny hops — and Milo rose to every single one of them. He showed brilliant control, balance, and coordination, all while maintaining a fantastic attitude. His hard work and perseverance really paid off, and his progress throughout the session was wonderful to see.
03 October 2025
Belle: is a shining example of someone who listens well and shows a fantastic attitude towards her learning. She tries her best in all she does, taking on her new learning and applying it carefully in her work. She has been especially impressive in science, where she has been impressing with the way she uses scientific vocabulary when describing materials. She can talk about materials that are transparent or opaque, and she can find multiple properties for one material. She has shown real determination in everything she does, and she should be proud of her effort and progress this week.
Harry: is someone that all the staff in Class 1 agreed on straight away. He is such a wonderful role model to everyone in our class and sets a brilliant example each day. He always works hard and puts so much effort into everything he does. Not only that, but he is kind, caring, and always ready to help others. We know we can rely on him, whether it’s supporting a friend with their learning, lending a hand when someone is stuck, or helping to tidy up the classroom. We are very proud of him!
26 September 2025
Ki Ki - has really impressed all the staff in Class 1 this week, with her hard-working attitude and willingness to do well. She has shown a real interest in her English this week, learning how to use adjectives to describe, and used this to write a Wanted poster for Robin Hood. She used sound mats to help her when spelling and used our common exception word wall to help her with those spellings. She thought carefully about her presentation, and we are so proud of what she has achieved!
Jack - could be chosen every week for his enthusiasm for learning. He is always eager to explore new ideas and asks thoughtful questions to deepen his understanding. He regularly takes what he has learnt during carpet sessions into continuous provision, where he works on activities independently. This week, he has really impressed us. He created his own wanted poster for a character he imagined and practised his mark making by drawing spirals and snails, inspired by his recent art learning. We are so proud of his independence and creativity!
19 September 2025
Freya - For her incredible work in Science! This week, we explored different objects and investigated what materials they were made from. She was an absolute whizz at this—perhaps we have a future scientist on our hands! Not only was she able to identify whether something was made of wood, plastic, glass, metal, or fabric, but she also showed great confidence in sorting and grouping objects based on their materials. She has even started to think carefully about the properties of materials, noticing whether they were hard, soft, smooth, rough, shiny, or dull. Her curiosity and careful observations made her stand out, and it was wonderful to see her enthusiasm shining through in Science.
Lilly H - For her kind and welcoming nature! This week, Lilly has been such a supportive friend, always making sure that no one is left out. She is often seen inviting others to join her games and activities, showing a wonderful sense of care. Lilly has especially loved our teacher role-play area, where she shines as she encourages and includes everyone around her. She is quick to spot when someone wants to join in but feels unsure, and she helps by modelling and showing them how. She speaks to her friends in such a kind and gentle way, making them feel comfortable and confident, and she is always encouraging others to try their very best.
12 September 2025
Iasmin - for being a good, responsible friend to others in her class this week. She took responsibility to help others when they were upset, she was kind and helpful; and she provides them with comfort and tries her best to make them feel happy again. We have seen her do this time and time again with friends this week, and she is setting a wonderful example as to how to be a great friend.
Freddie - has shown great responsibility in his writing. He has been a sentence detective, making sure he uses capital letters and full stops in his sentence, and spotting mistakes in Miss DeCouto's sentences, correcting her capital letters and full stops. He made his work clear and easy to read. He has listened carefully in class, and has been working hard on his formation of capital letters. He knows that a big part of Class 1, is making sure we use capital letters and full stops appropriately, and he has done exactly that this week.
