Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to St Anne's Church of England Primary School!

Welcome to St Anne’s. I’m Clare Middleton, and I have been privileged to serve as Head Teacher here for 17 years. I am incredibly proud to lead such a caring, happy and welcoming school, and I look forward to welcoming you and your child into our school family.

St Anne’s has a long and successful history, founded upon its Christian character and Church school foundation. Being a Church school is an important part of who we are. It means that our Christian vision and values are at the heart of school life, shaping the education we provide, the relationships we build and the way in which we care for one another.

Our Church school status also carries particular responsibilities. Collective worship is central to the life of a Church of England school and is rooted in its Christian foundation and Anglican tradition. Church of England guidance describes collective worship as the “unique heartbeat” of a Church school and says that it should be inclusive, invitational and inspiring, recognising that school communities include children and families of faith, of different faiths and of no faith. [churchofengland.org], [nse.org.uk]

For us, however, being a Church school is about much more than fulfilling requirements. It is about creating a community in which every child is known, valued and encouraged to flourish. Our Christian foundation inspires us to nurture the whole child, supporting their academic, social, moral and spiritual development and helping them to understand both themselves and the world around them.

St Anne’s has recently joined Mitre Trust, and we are excited about the opportunities this brings whilst remaining proud of our distinctive identity, history and Christian foundation.

We have high aspirations for every child. We work hard to enable our children to achieve their full potential, encouraging them to be curious, resilient and confident learners who strive to be the very best they can be. We expect high standards in learning and behaviour, alongside kindness, respect and consideration for others.

Our children learn that they belong to a community and that they have responsibilities within it. We want them to leave St Anne’s not only well-prepared for the next stage of their education, but also with the values, confidence and compassion to contribute positively to our diverse and ever-changing world.

Partnership is enormously important to us. We believe children thrive when families, school staff, governors, our Church community and the wider community work together. We want every child to feel safe, happy and proud to belong to St Anne’s and every family to feel welcomed and valued.

St Anne’s is a busy, friendly school with something happening every day. I hope our website gives you a flavour of what makes our school so special, but there really is no substitute for seeing it for yourself.

Please come and visit us. I am always delighted to show prospective families around, introduce you to our school community and answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to St Anne’s.
