2023-2024
W/E: 19/07/24
Willow: is the definition of an 'always always' child. If you need someone to help you in the classroom, to work hard or be a good friend then you can rely on this star. She stands out for so many reasons, but her kind nature and friendliness to others is wonderful. I can rely on her to be ready to learn, offer exciting ideas on the carpet and help others when they need a hand. She showcases our school rules all the time, and is a great role model to others.
W/E: 12/07/24
Ahmad: has impressed us in PE. We know outside of school he takes part in regular sporting activities, and he showcased some of his skills this week when we learnt how to volley a ball by getting under it. He quickly picked up this skill and could model it to his friends, and explain how to do it. He was able to aim the ball towards his partner, who could then catch the ball and pass it back. On top of being a superstar in PE, this star has been working hard in English, ensuring he is careful with his handwriting, and using exciting vocabulary to describe the setting of our story 'The Night Pirates'.
W/E: 05/07/24
George M: This week, we have seen George shine in phonics and English. He is applying spelling rules he has learnt in his writing, and we love seeing his face when he finds the right digraph or trigraph to use in his writing. He is becoming more independent with his phonics, and he knows how to use sound mats to help him improve his writing. His phonics recall is quick too, he can identify sounds quickly, and can blend well when reading.
W/E: 27/06/24
Dominic F: For his great understanding and work around money in Maths this week. He quickly grasped pounds and pence, and how much each coin or note is worth. He could recognise all coins and notes, and he could order them by value. He was able to articulate what he could buy with different amounts, and he is beginning to add coins together to make different amounts.
W/E: 21/06/24
Imogen: is an always always child. She can always be relied upon to make the right choice, work hard and set the right example. This week on our trip to Southwell, she demonstrated kind, polite behaviour, and she made St Anne's proud with the way she behaved. The same can be said about Imogen in the classroom - she is helpful, considerate, polite and hard-working. She is ready to learn and ready to support others with their learning. An all-round superstar.
W/E: 14/06/24
Isaac: This week, we have seen some great progress from Isaac in his reading. He is spotting digraphs and trigraphs, and reading more fluently. He has been reading regularly with Miss Howarth and she has just been blown away this week with how well he has been doing. He is putting more effort in to his learning, and has more determination to do well.
W/E: 07/06/24
Joshua: for his great understanding of positional language in Maths this week. We have been working on understanding vocabulary such as left, right, forwards and backwards, and this week, we just saw the moment it clicked for Joshua. You could see the pride in his face as he worked out his left and right, and how to move in those directions. He was then able to apply his new knowledge in PE, as we worked on our agility and coordination. It was lovely to see how pleased Joshua was with himself as he developed his skills.
Lucy: if we need someone who is kind and helpful, Lucy is the person we turn to. She is always there to help a friend in need, and she stood out for her caring nature in PE, as she helped another friend understand the skill we were learning. She was able to demonstrate her agility and coordination, and then help her friend with these skills too. Lucy is just all round fantastic, she works hard, cares for others and always follows the golden rules. She sets a fantastic example for behaviour at St Anne's. We are very proud of her!
W/E: 24/05/24
Riva: for her wonderful riddle about a sea animal. Class 1 have looked at the features of riddles and used this to create their own riddle. They researched different sea animals, chose facts about them, and developed these into their clues. The children drafted their riddle, and then edited it, adding exciting adjectives and more detail. The children then published their final riddles, ready to share with another class. Riva worked hard on her riddle, thinking about how she could improve her already incredible riddle.
Lilly: this week, we have been working on expressive paintings in Art. We used different tools to make different marks, then created paintings of the seaside. The children sketched out a plan, then painted a seaside scene, with one focus point. Lilly was careful with her painting, spending a lot of time on her focal point of her picture. She only had the primary colours and black and white paint available, so she mixed all the colours for her painting herself. She knew any mark that she made could represent something different in her picture. Well done, Lilly!
W/E: 17/05/24
Delilah: has been focused and engaged all week. She has stood out in phonics for her improved segmenting and blending. Delilah is keen to read, and wants to show off her skills to different adults. We have seen an improvement in her spellings, and her enthusiasm towards her learning. We know she can continue to keep up the great work!
Nadia: this week we have been looking at the human body and naming the parts of the body in Science. Nadia has been a whizz at this, and sharing her prior knowledge about animals. She was able to name animals from different groups, and name the features of these animals. She then labelled a human body part with as many features as possible. We may have a future scientist in Class 1.
W/E: 10/05/24
Flynn: For his enthusiasm and excitement in the classroom. Flynn brings a wonderful energy to the classroom, he is keen to learn and ready to answer questions. He is excited by so many areas of learning, he beams with pride whenever he completes a task. Everyone could use some of Flynn's enthusiasm sometimes, he brings a smile to all.
Colin: For his excellent work in Science. This week, we have been learning about the diets of different animals, and grouping them based on whether they are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. Colin was a whizz at this. He was quick to understand the diets of different animals and decide whether they were a carnivore, omnivore or herbivore. He used the information sheets to find out what they ate, and what group they belonged to, and he was able to add this to his venn diagram.
W/E: 03/05/24
Jasper: For his polite and kind behaviour this week. He has been noticed for how he has been helping others, and how he is noticing when others do well. He is celebrating his friends around him, and praising them for kind behaviour, neat work and good friendship. He has been letting adults know that he has spotted other people doing good things, rather than only thinking of the good things he has done. We have been so pleased with this mature behaviour, and his politeness towards others.
Pippa: For her fabulous story writing. Class 1 were asked to write the beginning, middle or end of The Snail and Whale. They used Talk for Writing to tell the story, and thought about uplevelling it with different adjectives. The children are then going to turn these into mini-books for others to enjoy. Pippa worked very hard on this task, thinking carefully about the variety of adjectives she uses, the size of her letters and re-reading her work for it to make sense. We are currently in the editing stage, but we are certain it will be a fabulous piece by the end of it.
W/E: 19/04/24
Isla: for her wonderful work in phonics. Isla has been quick to spot split digraphs this week, and has been able to explain that a split digraph has a consonant between the vowels. She has been reading the words fluently, and is applying the rule within her spellings. We are so pleased with how much her reading is improving day-by-day.
Oaklan: has stood out for his kind, patient nature. Class 1 received new learning partners this week, and every time you look at Oaklan, he is helping and supporting his partner with spellings, letter formation and calculations in Maths. On top of this, Oaklan is polite and helpful.
W/E: 22/03/24
Teddy: For his fantastic moving picture in DT. Over the past few weeks, Class 1 have been learning how to make different moving pictures, using sliding, lever and pivot, and wheel mechanisms. They then designed a moving picture based on what they know. They used their minibeasts they made last term in Art, and designed an appropriate background for their picture. Teddy chose a sliding mechanism, and designed a fantastic background before adding his minibeast into the picture. He took his time with cutting and drawing, and made sure he knew how he wanted his picture to move.
W/E: 15/03/24
Lilianna: has been chosen for her enthusiasm during our new unit of learning in writing. We have begun to look at poems and have spent time looking at the features of a poem. Lilianna was thoroughly engaged in the lesson and was able to explain how this style of writing differs from the others we have explored so far in Class 2. It is also important to mention that she works extremely hard on her reading both at home and at school and her progress is notable.
Phoebe: is someone who can always be relied on to be making good choices. She is a superb role model to her class and the younger children in Key Stage 1. It is very easy in a busy classroom to have a chat with your friend instead of listening or completing the task you have been given, but Phoebe, day after day, demonstrates a huge amount of maturity.
W/E: 08/03/24
Grace: has developed a love of history, which has been wonderful to see. She has an infectious enthusiasm for all things historical. Her thirst for knowledge has been clear in our Titanic, Victorian and Mining topic where she collects facts and thinks carefully about the evidence presented to her, before asking a variety of different of questions about what happened and why. She particularly enjoys finding out about the changes that occured as a result of a historical event and has impressed a variety of teachers and a governor with the knowledge she has retained. An extremely well deserved star of the week.
Charlie: has continued to make super progress in his reading, working hard both at home and at school. As a result we are beginning to see huge leaps in his confidence when writing. Charlie has the most fantastic ideas for sentences and is becoming more confident when attempting to write them down. He now uses many of the rules for spelling that he is learning in his phonics sessions. I love it when this young man puts his hand up to answer my questions, as he always brings a unique perspective to our discussions. He works hard every day, has a wonderful sense of humour and is a joy to teach!
W/E: 01/03/24
David: continues to impress us with his attitude to learning. He really does appear to love learning and as a result is always paying close attention during lessons. His writing has really impressed the Class 2 team this week. He is able to work independently to think of his own sentences before writing them down using many of the rules of writing learnt in Class 2.
Billie: has been chosen for her enthusiasm for learning in every subject! We have been particularly impressed with her reading and writing this week where her sensible attitude to the tasks has led to some superb results. During her independent writing this week, she showed that she can remember many of the taught rules of writing and can write in an appropriate style for report writing.
W/E: 23/02/24
Sophie: has returned from her half term break with huge amounts of enthusiasm for her learning which is wonderful to see. Mrs Smith and I have particularly noticed her transformation in her attitude to reading. She is working hard at home and in school and her progress is plain to see. Sophie has also been making huge amounts of progress in art. During this weeks lesson she demonstrated colour mixing skills with powder paint and her ability to make tints and shades which using Monet's Waterlily painting as inspiration.
W/E: 02/02/24
Julia: is growing in confidence as the year progresses. She works quietly and quickly and always to the best of her ability. Julia is becoming more likely to offer answers to my questions and share her thoughts with her learning partner. I was particularly impressed this week when she showed me how she had continued our history learning at home by drawing a picture of the animals who worked down the mine. Julia had written some facts too in her beautiful cursive writing.
Ella: gets on with her work quickly and quietly to the best of her ability. Ella does not make a fuss - just gets on and does it. I want her to know that the adults in class two have noticed this and comment on it regularly. It is because of her focus that Ella's work is of a high quality. She listens carefully during lessons and works hard during independent tasks leading to fantastic pieces of work across all subjects!
W/E: 26/01/24
Jude: has had a superb attitude to his learning this week. He has been extremely proud of the progress he has made in his handwriting (and rightly so). Jude is beginning to use cursive writing more regularly and differentiate between his ascenders and descenders. I was also impressed with him during our science lesson where he made extremely valuable contributions to our discussion about how to set up a fair test to answer the question, What does a plant need to grow?
W/E: 19/01/24
Eliza: My first star has been doing some amazing story writing this week. We are writing a spooky story opener based upon the illustrations of the picture book 'George and the Dragon' by Chris Wormell. This young lady is working hard to master the techniques we have been using as well as choosing her vocabulary carefully. We have been using expanded noun phrases, repetition for effect, question sentences and the power of three in order to build suspense. Well done Eliza, your story opener is superb!
Marcus: has been developing his fine motor skills and hand strength which has provided him the foundations for holding a pencil for drawing, mark making and writing. Marcus holds his pencil beautifully, holding it near the point between his first two fingers and thumb and with some good control and support - he has produced some brilliant work. The Year 2 team are very proud of his effort this week - practicing his pencil control by tracing over patterns with his pencil, he got so good at this he then moved on to tracing over the letters in his name! Well done Marcus
W/E: 15/12/23
Teddy: For his fantastic fact file about London. He spent time researching and finding out information about London and landmarks in London. He worked on creating a plan to write a fact file and then produced a great final piece about London. He thought about when he needed to use a capital letter and full stop, he used finger spaces appropriately, and started to use suffixes in his writing too. He worked independently and we are so proud of his final piece.
W/E: 08/12/23
Pippa: For her general enthusiasm in everything she does. She is always ready and raring to go no matter what. She has a smile on her face and several adults have spotted her in class this week for this very reason. She sings loudly and clearly during all of our nativity practises, she puts her hand up to share her answers and ideas, she works well with her partner, she is just always full of energy and really brings a smile to your face.
Isla: This week, Isla has stood out for her hard work in English. Class 1 are working towards writing a fact file about London. Miss El Khatib noticed how hard she was working with her partner during the planning of her fact file. She could recall facts about London and landmarks in London, and she was sharing ideas with her partner as they worked together to write a super plan. We can't wait to read her finished fact file next week.
W/E: 01/12/23
Imogen - this week we have an incredible mathematician in Class 1. She is focussed, listening well, and applying everything she is being taught. We have been using the part whole model to help us with subtraction, and at first Class 1 were very confused by it, but Imogen persevered, focussed on the method and was able to independently work through the questions and correctly use what she had learnt. She was a superstar!
Isaac: This weeks star always walks in to gymnastics a little unsure, and sometimes a little worried about what he may have to do. However, every week we see more and more improvements from him. He has been working hard on his balance and coordination, and he has really been impressing with his skipping skills. He should be so proud of what he is achieving each week.
W/E: 24/11/23
No star this week as Class 1 are on a trip
W/E: 17/11/23

Lola: This week, Lola has been working incredibly hard. She has persevered when things were tough. She has been impressing us in Maths, comparing and ordering numbers, and you could see the moment where things clicked for Lola, she had a real 'I've got it moment'. Her face lit up, and she began to solve all her problems independently. We were pleased to see how proud she was of herself.
Jed: We have an incredible artist in Year 1. We have been working on mark making, and drawing spirals with different mediums. This week, we applied this technique to draw spirals in nature. She has wowed us with her formation, and is working on her counting outside of Maths times too, counting different things throughout provision. She is always so proud of herself too, smiling whenever she completes her activities.
Aza: If enthusiasm was a child, it would be this weeks star. Whenever you need someone to keep things positive, you can rely upon Aza. He is so excited to learn, and find out more. He stood out this week for his enthusiasm on our local area walk at the beginning of the week. He was excited to tell everyone what he could see, and was so happy the whole walk. We just love his incredible attitude to learning, and he keeps us all smiling all day.
W/E: 29/09/23
Lucy: for her wonderful independent piece of writing about Robin Hood. She used adjectives to write a description of Robin Hood for a wanted poster. She thought about what he looks like, what he wears and even included information about where he lives. She thought of her sentences independently, and wrote them by herself. We couldn't get her to stop writing, she just wanted to keep going. We were very impressed with her incredible description.
Jasper: this week, Jasper has been been working hard in Maths and English, listening carefully on the carpet, and sharing more answers. We also noticed him listening for sounds during his writing, and using a sound mat to help him spell them correctly.
W/E: 22/09/23
Joshua: This week, we have been learning how to make different marks using our whole bodies in Art. We focused on starting with just moving our fingertips and our wrists, then as the marks grew, we moved our whole bodies. Joshua really enjoyed this and was excited to use the graphite sticks. The best thing to see was Joshua continuing his learning. He was exploring how he could make marks with different writing mediums, and he was excited to share what he made each time.
Lucas: We have seen a growth in confidence from Lucas this week, especially in Maths. He is contributing more answers in class, and he is working more independently. He is keen to show us what he can do, and is choosing number activities to complete in class. The best thing to see is his beaming smile when he realises what he has achieved in his Maths lessons.
