Class 1 – Miss DeCouto

Our Big Questions to discuss at home based on the work done in school.

w/c 15.6.20

This week the children began looking at our booklet 'In The Beginning', together in class.

We talked about the creation story and all the families God split living things in to.

This may be amphibians, mammals, birds, insects, fish, trees, flowers, reptiles or insects.

This week I want you to think about these families. Your big questions to discuss this week is:

'Who cares for all Gods families?'

'How many species of animals can you think of in one family?'

(For example: dog family would include spaniels, terriers, hounds etc)

Welcome to Class 1!
The adults in Class 1 are:
Miss DeCouto - Our Teacher
Mrs Beard - Our Teaching Assistant

Land Ahoy!

This term our topic is Land Ahoy which has a History and Geography focus. We will begin by learning about the the continents and oceans of the world, learning about coasts and rivers. We will look at key historical people, including Grace Darling and Christopher Colombus.

Class 1 information

Reading - To promote independence the children are encouraged to change their reading book when they are ready each week. To support your child at home we encourage that they read with you for a minimum of 3 times a week. Each week we will look in their home diary and if they have read 3 times at home they will get a remarkable reader sticker on the class chart and in their diaries.

PE - Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school for the entire week as our PE days may sometimes have to change.  Children will need an indoor and outdoor kit. They need suitable trainers for their outdoor session, and we would recommend they have a plastic bag in their PE kit to put any muddy shoes in to.

Homework - Each week on a Friday the children will be set a ‘Learning Log’ task which needs to be handed in by the following Wednesday. The task may either be Maths, English or topic based and should be an activity that your child can achieve as we will have discussed it during the week. Children will also be able to access Maths games via the abacus website.

Marvellous Me - This year we will be continuing to send you good news through our Marvellous Me app. If you have not yet registered for this please see a member of the team and we will be able to provide you with your child’s details.

Here are some links and resources to support your child with Phonics.
