St Anne's and Beyond
This term our topic is St Anne’s and Beyond which has a History and Geography focus. We will begin by using some simple fieldwork and observational skills to look at our local environment. This will include the school grounds and a walk around our local area.
The children will learn to use and draw maps and construct basic symbols in a key. We will learn about the legend of Robin Hood, before broadening our learning out towards London. We will focus on the Great Fire of London and the Royal Family. We will then compare London with the capital of Peru, Lima.
Class 1 information
Reading - To promote independence the children are encouraged to change their reading book when they are ready each week. To support your child at home we encourage that they read with you for a minimum of 3 times a week. Each week we will look in their home diary and if they have read 3 times at home they will get a remarkable reader sticker on the class chart and in their diaries.
PE - Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school for the entire week as our PE days may sometimes have to change. Children will need an indoor and outdoor kit. They need suitable trainers for their outdoor session, and we would recommend they have a plastic bag in their PE kit to put any muddy shoes in to.
Homework - Each week on a Friday the children will be set a ‘Learning Log’ task which needs to be handed in by the following Wednesday. The task may either be Maths, English or topic based and should be an activity that your child can achieve as we will have discussed it during the week. Children will also be able to access Maths games via the abacus website.
Marvellous Me - This year we will be continuing to send you good news through our Marvellous Me app. If you have not yet registered for this please see a member of the team and we will be able to provide you with your child’s details.

On Friday 16th November, Class 1 spent the whole day learning about the creation story. The children studied the question, Who made the world? The children listened to the Creation Story from the Bible, spent the morning writing prayers to thank God for the world, making posters to teach people how to look after the world, role playing the story of creation, and drawing pictures of things God created. The afternoon was spent appreciating what God has made. The children did this by thinking about the journey of a grape from a seed to our fridges! The children had to think about everything it goes through before we get the opportunity to eat.
It's fair to say the children had a fantastic day, and were bursting with information by the end of it!
As part of Awe and Wonder Week, Class 1 started to think about the changes that happen in Autumn. We discussed why the leaves change colour and fall from the trees.
The children then went on an Autumn walk where they collected leaves and made Autumn art.
