Welcome to Class 3.
Your teachers in Year 3 will be Mrs Tyrrell on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and Mrs Arnold on a Thursday.
Your teaching assistants will be Mrs Smith, every day and Mrs Beard on a Tuesday afternoon.
The move to Key Stage 2 is an important step in a child's journey through school. In Class 3 we make this transition as smooth as possible. Children become more independent in their learning and organisation and are expected (and helped) to be aware of how they can move on in their learning.
English and Maths are kept as priorities in learning but, as throughout school, an integrated approach is taken where ever possible.
In Class 3, a residential is a highlight of the year as well as a topic called 'Time Travelling', which centres around a trip to Southwell Minster. A history focused topic on Prehistoric Britain is very interesting as children discover how the people of Britain lived and developed. We spend some time using the recorder to give all children the chance to learn to read music and begin to learn how to speak French. The children are taught about safe cycling and also have a series of swimming sessions later in the year.
As in other classes, the main focus of homework is the Learning Log. Children are given open-ended tasks which allow them to work in ways which suit their learning style. There is an expectation that all children attempt the homework set.
It is suggested that children keep a PE kit in school all week so that we can be flexible about when we do PE.
We will keep you informed through notes, letters and this website.
Please talk to any of the staff in Year 3 about any concerns you may have or to see how to help your child.
