Week 38 - Summer Term - 25 July 2025
“Developing the whole child, spiritually, mentally and physically in a caring Christian environment through close links to the Church and Community”
Friday 25th July 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of another busy and fulfilling school year, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on all we have shared and achieved together as a school community.
Each child has taken another meaningful step on their learning journey – growing in knowledge, confidence, and compassion. It’s been a joy to witness their progress and to celebrate their many individual and collective achievements throughout the year. They never fail to amaze me!
A special mention goes to our wonderful Reception children, who have completed their very first year of school! It’s been a pleasure to see them settle into school life, form friendships, and develop a love for learning that we know will grow in the years ahead. The Reception team have certainly enjoyed the cohort this year!
At the other end of the school, we bid a fond farewell to our Class 6 pupils – a fantastic group who’ve led the school with a perfect mix of energy, personality, and just the right amount of sass! You’ve left your mark on St Anne’s, and we know you’ll carry forward all you’ve learned here with courage and pride. We will miss you deeply – go out into the world and keep shining brightly.
We also say goodbye to Miss Parkin. Although her time with us has been short, we hope she takes a little piece of St Anne’s with her.
As a community, we continue to hold Mrs Storrs in our prayers and wish her strength and healing during her recovery, as we do Adele, our much-loved caretaker. They are both very much in our thoughts.
This year we were especially reminded of the strength of our school family as we came together to celebrate or school’s 100th birthday. The sense of community that shone through during this historic celebration was truly heart-warming, and a testament to all who make our school so special. We congratulate Lichfield House, for the way in which they have pulled together and came out with the most team points this year.
A heartfelt thank you to all our parent and grandparent volunteers, who give their time so generously to support trips, reading, and activities in school. To the Friends of St Anne’s group, to our dedicated governors, to the church team, and to every member of our incredible staff – thank you for your unwavering commitment and care. Together, you help make St Anne’s a place where children are nurtured, challenged, and cherished.

News from the Classrooms – Reflections!
Reception
What an incredible journey it’s been for Reception class this year! The children have grown into confident, happy learners who have shown wonderful resilience and a willingness to try new things every day. The year has been packed with exciting experiences including trips and a host of visitors who have brought their learning to life. Forest School was a particular highlight that the children looked forward to each week. Through ‘talk for writing’ the children have enjoyed retelling stories with enthusiasm and creativity. We couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come. They’ve truly been amazing, and we know they’re more than ready to take on the adventures of Year 1 in September. Well done, Reception—we’ll miss you!
Class 1
Class 1 have had a super fun and busy year! They kicked things off learning about their local area with a walk around Worksop, then jumped into history with the ‘Great Fire of London’. A trip to the National Emergency Services Museum extended their learning and was a fun new experience. They were visited by our local firefighters who taught them more about the ‘Great Fire of London’. They read and retold ‘The Queen’s Hat ‘using Talk for Writing and created fact files about London. In Spring, they zoomed into Space, learning about the first astronauts and writing their own stories called ‘Alien on the Moon’. A visit from the mobile planetarium made it even more exciting! This Summer, they explored how the seaside has changed over the last 100-years, found out about Grace Darling, had a visit from the RNLI, learnt about animals in science, and topped it off with a fantastic trip to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. They wrapped up the year by designing, making and eating their own ice lollies in DT!
Class 2
What a wonderful and memorable year it has been in Year 2! Our children have loved exploring engaging topics such as the Titanic, the Victorian Era, Mining, and Australia, bringing history and geography to life in exciting ways. Highlights included our immersive trips to a Victorian classroom and the National Mining Museum, where pupils stepped into the shoes of people from the past. In Art, we honed our colour mixing skills and took inspiration from artists old and new, including Claude Monet and Pete Cromer. We've also been working hard on developing our beautiful cursive writing, which has flourished throughout the year. One of the proudest moments was our magical Nativity performance, where every child gave their very best. It’s been a year full of learning, creativity, and most importantly, lots of fun!
Class 3
What a fabulous year in Class 3. Lots of learning, fun times and happy memories. This year has seen the children cover 3 main topics: Stone Age, Romans and Natural Disasters. All the children have immersed themselves within each topic and blown us away with their home-learning projects. The visit to ‘Creswell Crags’ early in the year allowed the children to see up close artefacts. To see their ‘awe and wonder’ for different exhibits and caves was great to see. The Roman visitor in Spring was an experience! The chance to get into the character of a Roman, see lots of different Roman artefacts and then use this learning to put on an outstanding Class Assembly. Throughout the year, the children have given learning ‘their all’ across all subjects and so much progress has been made. Their writing has improved over the year, and they have experienced writing genres such as narratives, diaries and newspaper reports for a range of different topics. In Maths, they continue to make great progress, and they are already building their times table knowledge ready for next year.
There are so many memories that stand out and so much more that could be written. It has been a real pleasure to be teaching this class, getting to know them all and see them grow over the year.
We hope you have an amazing summer.
Class 4
This year has been an exciting and memorable journey filled with learning and fun. The children have explored fascinating topics such as the Vikings and the Tudors and travelled across the world in our South America topic. In science they discovered how electricity works and learned all about teeth and the digestive system. They have also enjoyed many scientific enquiries. They have also enjoyed learning French, gaining new language skills and confidence. The class trips to Perlethorpe and Gainsborough Old Hall brought the children’s learning to life and created special memories. In design and technology, the children developed their sewing and baking skills. It really has been a year full of curiosity, discovery and learning. The Class 4 team is proud of everything the children have achieved this year.
Class 5
The autumn term was filled with awe and wonder as the children deepened their space exploration with some amazing learning log projects! Mrs Camish enjoyed the class trip to Perlethorpe, where the class explored sustainability. The maths curriculum brought its challenges with lots of focus on fractions and decimals with time for multiplication and division too – building on from their Class 4 multiplication scores. The Hathersage residential brought a sense of fun, long walks, fresh air and fish and chips! Mrs Camish left for promotion and Miss Parkin joined the class, where the children continued to develop their ukulele skills, immersed themselves in Ancient Egypt and showcased their learning in their class assembly. We just loved the dancing! Their work with Claire Bishop has been commendable as they have worked hard to gain their ‘Archbishop of York Young Leader’s Awards’. Developing their knowledge of the local community, recognising that small gestures can lead to great gains. Hosting a bake sale for ‘Cancer Research’, litter picking in the local area as well as producing creative artwork to be showcased at the local ‘framework centre’ with the overarching message of love were some of the projects. The children have put themselves forwards for the Class 6 leadership roles and we look forward to them embracing the sense of responsibility. You can do it Class 5!
Class 6
What a year it has been. Wow, the children in Class 6 have had so many experiences this year and so many successes it's hard to list them all. From the moment this class took part in the 'potato Olympics' it was clear it would be a great year. The children loved all their WWII learning in September, especially their evacuation themed day, where children dressed up. They also had a visit from the National Holocaust Museum, and followed Leo's story, who was a young Jewish boy, growing up in Germany during WWII. During this time the children also made trench stew and created lovely poems for remembrance. Residential was a highlight, this year, as many children, faced their fears, tackled wild heights and had a two-night sleep over with friends. Class 6 graduated from the DART unit of learning and are better prepared for their next steps into secondary school. Some attended the Christmas movie mob and all of them loved our Christmas party games and snacks. In the new year, Class 6 worked with 'Inspire Music' to create, compose and perform their own song, centred around the protection of the planet. They also had a Maya, experience day and even performed an ancient dance. Booster and SATs prep began, and the children worked so hard. They were still able to enjoy British Science week and world book day, during this time. More recently children celebrated the centenary, visited the capital city and loved it, as well as a water fight, leavers disco and two wonderful performances of ‘Rock Bottom’. It's been a wonderful year this year and I wish year six all the best for their next steps. They are a lovely class and I'm so proud of all of them. Good luck Class 6 and remember.... every little thing, is going' to be alright!
