We support a number of charities over the school year and the School Council decide upon these. Events range from sponsored events to dress up days or can be through the actions the children carry out. In the past, there have been cake sales, sponsored skips, sponsored swims, pyjama days to support both local and National charities.
Already this school year we have supported the local 'Hope for the Homeless Charity' with our Harvest produce and we are currently collecting items for 'Operation Christmas Child' - the shoebox appeal.
In school we support our ongoing charity called CHESS (Children’s Health & Security Secured by Sponsorship).
“CHESS is a Charity whose main aim is to ensure as many Kenyan children as possible are given the opportunity of receiving an education from Nursery School to University and the provision of free medical treatment and/or specialist treatment through sponsorship”
We sponsor two children in particular from the charity; Felix and Manase.
Over the years we have collected money in a variety of ways to support CHESS and similar charities. We ask that children bring any spare coppers you may have lurking at home into school throughtout the work and put them in the collection boxes that can be found in each classroom. The School Council members will then collect the money every Friday and take it to the school office for counting and banking.
Chess have a number of projects they are able to complete with donations such as building their Nursery School in September 2009. With work continuing on the Primary School with three classrooms being finished in November 2011 and five further classrooms needing to be completed in the last part of the school. The final stage will be an Orphanage to care for those children who have already lost and who are currently losing their parents to HIV / Aids.
Your donations every week can also go towards other work the charity complete such as buying a new minibus for the school, running a ‘Feeding Program’ that ensures the children are provided with breakfast and hot lunches everyday and building a bore well to provide fresh, clean water.
We hope that by supporting CHESS we can teach our children how we are able to make a difference to children who are not as fortunate as them.
