All Things Wild and Wonderful
This term our topic is All Things Wild and Wonderful which has a Geography focus. We will begin by looking at the seven continents and five oceans of the world. Children will learn and label these continents and oceans. After this, we will focus on the continent of Africa and the country Zambia. Children will compare this country to England, and Worksop. Children will then move on to hot and cold climates, considering how animals adapt to different climates and environments. We will spend time creating African art, and learning about David Livingstone, who was an explorer in Africa.
Class 1 information
Reading - To promote independence the children are encouraged to change their reading book when they are ready each week. To support your child at home we encourage that they read with you for a minimum of 3 times a week. Each week we will look in their home diary and if they have read 3 times at home they will get a remarkable reader sticker on the class chart and in their diaries.
PE - Our PE days this term are Mondays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school. They need suitable trainers for their outdoor session, and we would recommend they have a plastic bag in their PE kit to put any muddy shoes in to.
Homework - Each week on a Friday the children will be set a ‘Learning Log’ task which needs to be handed in by the following Wednesday. The task may either be Maths, English or topic based and should be an activity that your child can achieve as we will have discussed it during the week. Children will also be able to access Maths games via the abacus website.
Marvellous Me - This year we will be continuing to send you good news through our Marvellous Me app. If you have not yet registered for this please see a member of the team and we will be able to provide you with your child’s details.

On Friday 16th November, Class 1 spent the whole day learning about the creation story. The children studied the question, Who made the world? The children listened to the Creation Story from the Bible, spent the morning writing prayers to thank God for the world, making posters to teach people how to look after the world, role playing the story of creation, and drawing pictures of things God created. The afternoon was spent appreciating what God has made. The children did this by thinking about the journey of a grape from a seed to our fridges! The children had to think about everything it goes through before we get the opportunity to eat.
It's fair to say the children had a fantastic day, and were bursting with information by the end of it!
As part of Awe and Wonder Week, Class 1 started to think about the changes that happen in Autumn. We discussed why the leaves change colour and fall from the trees.
The children then went on an Autumn walk where they collected leaves and made Autumn art.
