Week 26 - Spring Term - 04 April 2025
“Developing the whole child, spiritually, mentally and physically in a caring Christian
environment through close links to the Church and Community”
Friday 4th April 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of another busy and exciting term, I want to take a moment to thank our entire school community for their support, dedication, and enthusiasm. This term has been filled with wonderful learning experiences, memorable events, Ofsted culminating with a focus on Easter.
A special thank you to our Year 3 and 4 children for bringing the term to a close with their Easter performance.
On Tuesday, all our classes took part in an Easter pilgrimage, retelling the Easter story in a way that brought Religious Education to life. This was made possible by our dedicated Church team and volunteers, and we are incredibly grateful for their time and support in helping children to understand events within the story.
Class 6 had a fantastic experience watching the ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at Outwood Academy Portland, where they saw former St Anne’s pupils excelling in their performances. It was a pleasure to see our past students continuing to shine in their new schools.
Our younger children were delighted by a visit from the ‘Easter Bunny’ in Key Stage 1. A huge thank you to FOSAS for organising Easter refreshments, the much-loved Easter egg hunt, and the Easter raffle on Thursday. We were overwhelmed by the number of beautifully decorated eggs this year—congratulations to our prize winners! FOSAS also hosted a ‘Weight of the Cake’ competition, which added even more fun to the celebrations.
Decorated Egg Winners:
Penny, Alex G, Jasper, Charlie F, Sonia, Jacob and Darcie!

On Tuesday both the girls' and boys' football teams were in action against Bracken Lane. The girls were dominant in their match winning 6-1 with fantastic goals scored by Amelia, Olivia and Ava. Despite the boys' best efforts and hard work in defence they came away with a 1-0 loss.
A huge well done to our School Councillors, who visited the Bassetlaw Food Bank with generous donations from our school community. Your kindness and generosity will help feed a family for a whole week—what an incredible achievement! Thank you to Mrs Wilkinson and Mrs Smith for leading on this.
Changes to Lunch Menu and KS2 Snacks
From Easter, Reception class will have a ‘choice’ menu, which is the same as KS2 – please take a look at the website. This will need to be booked and paid for in advance.
Please remember to log on before children return and book your child’s meals and choose what they will be eating. Please ensure you child knows what you have booked for them each day. Children will be served what has been booked for them, failure to book will mean your child will be served option 1.
Additionally, we are introducing a ‘pizza muffin snack’ for the ‘whole school’ on Fridays - 50p – bookable on Arbor in coming days!
Pirate Holiday Club
A pirate themed Easter Holiday Club will run in St Anne’s Church Hall from Monday 14th – Wednesday 16th April, 10am-12pm. This is for all classes. No pre booking, just turn up on the days that you wish your child to attend.
News from the Classes
Class Reception
This week, Class Reception enjoyed going on an Easter Pilgrimage with members of St Anne’s Church to help learn more about the Easter story and why it is important to Christians. They enjoyed an Easter egg hunt with Class 1 and found lots of eggs in the playground. Class Reception have also been busy junk modelling and worked together as a team to build their own giant’s castle and made giant cress heads to finish their work on ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’.
Class One
This week, Class 1 completed their Design Technology unit for this term. They were asked to make a picture of a minibeast, and they had to include a moving mechanism in their picture. Each child designed their own picture and spent time making their picture before evaluating it. They made some fantastic pictures, with wheels, sliders, and levers and pivots.
The children also celebrated their letters in English as they persuaded Miss DeCouto to let Beegu the alien stay. They are very excited to have Beegu as a member of their class.
Class Two
This week Class 2 have enjoyed writing sentences for a setting in their story. They have included expanded noun phrases, adverbs, conjunctions and adventurous vocabulary. The class have enjoyed using AI technology to illustrate their words. They have taken the opportunity to edit their work if the illustration did not match the picture in their minds eye!
Class Three
What a busy half-term for Class 3. The children have made great progress, which recent assessments have proven. They have been consolidating all their learning so far and bringing their Roman topic to a close. All the children have enjoyed exploring this time in History. Their learning log projects have been outstanding and their contributions to lessons have blown us away, showing such enthusiasm. This week, the children in English have been composing a letter back to Maximus (from our Roman day), pretending to be a Roman Commander. The children enjoyed getting into character and using their geographical and historical knowledge to craft a letter explaining how they would use a new piece of conquered land and persuading Maximus to come and visit.
This week has seen the children practise and perform their end of term Easter service. The children have worked hard to explain the parts of the Easter story and put this into their performance. This was supported by Church who took them on an Easter Pilgrimage on Tuesday to develop their knowledge further. We are so proud of the children for doing this performance and their singing has been an outstanding feature.
We hope that everyone has an amazing Easter Break. We look forward to welcoming the children back for the Summer Term in Class 3!
Class Four
Class 4 have had a busy week with rehearsals for the end of term service and finishing off their learning for this term. In history, the children have been learning about the ‘Battle of Hastings’ and how the strengths and weaknesses from each leader led to a Norman victory and the end of Anglo-Saxon and Viking Britain. In design and technology, they have been making their own moving picture books using levers and linkages. A big well done to all of the children who took the time to create a piece of learning log homework. The classroom has been full of Viking villages, helmets and clay pots. The chocolate bars made as part of the science element of the learning log unfortunately didn't make it to the classroom! It has been a half term full of some fantastic learning and progress in Class 4.
Class Five
During this final week of the term, Class 5 have written non- chronological reports about the life of Ancient Egyptian children. Did you know, for example, that only the richest children attended school and that the poorest would use things like pebbles and feathers as toys?
In Maths, pupils have deepened their understanding of parts of a whole by learning how to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages.
R.E. has focused on how the Gospel account of Peter’s denial of Jesus shows how deep God’s forgiveness is, as well as considering the way in which Jesus’ death is seen by Christians as a sacrifice.
Class Six
During their final week of this term, Class 6 have been practising their persuasive techniques by coming into 'Lord MacDonald's' board room and hoping to be 'hired!' not 'fired.' All the children were brilliant at persuading Miss MacDonald to choose their team to sell the hotel (however it was fun firing some of them). They have then used skills such as exaggeration and subjunctive form to create a persuasive brochure, advertising somewhere they have loved/ visited in the past.
During maths, children have started to look at shape including angles of triangles, learning how to measure them using the protractor (angle measurer) and to calculate the angles in a triangle using subtraction.
In science the children classified animals by looking at their similar characteristics.
Also, in RE children continued to be immersed in the Easter story by taking part in an Easter story telling activity at the church.
Finally, the children concluded the week with their DART assembly and showed off what they have learnt.
Miss MacDonald hopes all children in year six have a lovely Easter break and find a little bit of time to do some revision as they are all doing so well at the minute.
24 Acts of Kindness
Well done to the children who returned their sheets and showed they had completed 24 different acts of kindness. We hope you like your Easter treat.
Class Tidiness Award
Caretaker Adele has awarded the certificate to Class 1 and Class 3!

Prayers from Thomas and Mia in Class 6
Dear God, help us to trust in the Lord as he died for our sins and conquered death. Amen
Dear God, please help us to trust one another and be thankful for all that you have done for us. Amen
As we head into the Easter break, I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable holiday. Please encourage your child to find out what they can about the school’s history in readiness for our centenary term. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term.
