Week 25 - Spring Term - 28 March 2025

St Anne’s C of E (A) Primary News

“Developing the whole child, spiritually, mentally and physically in a caring Christian

environment through close links to the Church and Community

Friday 28th March 2025

Dear Parents & Carers,

Another busy week of learning has flown by with children completing end of unit assessments, and we were delighted to end it on a high note with Class 5’s wonderful Class Assembly yesterday - well done to all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm!

As we approach Mothering Sunday this weekend, we take time to reflect on and appreciate the special female figures in our lives. Historically, Mothering Sunday has its roots in the Christian tradition, dating back to the 16th century. It was originally a day when people returned to their ‘mother church’—the main church or cathedral in their area. Over time, it became a day for families to reunite, and by the early 20th century, it had evolved into a celebration of mothers and caregivers. Today, it remains a meaningful occasion to show gratitude and love to those who nurture and support us.

Looking ahead, next week will be focused on Easter, with Years 3 and 4 leading our end-of-term service.

If you are having a spring clear out over the holidays, we are also kindly asking for donations of toy cars, dolls, and small world toys for children to enjoy during the warmer weather playtimes—any contributions would be greatly appreciated.

News from the Classes

Class Reception

This week Class Reception have thought about another Traditional Tale.  They have enjoyed reading Jack and the Beanstalk and talking about the characters and settings.  They have begun to find out a little bit about castles and some of the different areas in them.  The children have also been thinking about Mothering Sunday and sharing what makes their mummy special to them.

Class One

This week, Class 1 received an email from the author of ‘Beegu’, Alexis Deacon, who explained what they should do since Beegu arrived in their classroom. They were very excited to receive the response, and have found out that they should just make Beegu feel welcome, by being kind and friendly. Miss DeCouto isn't a fan though, so the children are currently writing letters to convince Miss DeCouto to let Beegu stay in their classroom.

Class Two

This week Class 2 have been writing setting descriptions as part of writing a narrative for the wordless book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker.  The children have been using exciting vocabulary, expanded noun phrases and adverbs to help build an image in the reader’s mind.  They have then used AI to generate a picture using their sentences and have been fascinated to see how the images differ dependent on the sentences they crafted.

Class Three

This week Class 3 have been busy consolidating their learning in English, Reading and Maths. This has been a chance for them to show off all that they know. We are very proud of their progress in Class 3 and can see the effort that they put in.

A focus this week has been our DT projects. This project is based around our Roman learning. The children had to design and build a catapult based on a set of video instructions. The children had to carefully measure distance, which consolidated their maths learning. All completed, the children decorated them to make them more realistic/individual. We ended the project by having a tournament to see whose catapult could launch a tinfoil bolder the furthers. It was great to see the children’s enthusiasm through this unit. Finally, the children have been practising the Easter performance ready for the end of term service next week.

Class Four

Class 4 have been busy rehearsing ready for the Class 3/4 Easter production next week.  In English, Class 4 have been crafting their newspaper report based on an event in the class text, how to train your dragon. They needed to report of the key facts, use report vocabulary and ensure they had included their Class 4 grammatical features. It has been a busy week of assessment with the children showcasing their knowledge from the year so far. In history, Class 4 have been learning about the impact on the Vikings raids and the reasons that the Vikings were so feared.

Class Five

This week class 5 has been developing their understanding of percentages as part of a whole. They have used this to begin to compare fractions, decimals and percentages. In RE, they have been thinking about the importance of the Gospel in helping Christians to understand the kind of person that Jesus would want His followers to be.  In music, they have been working towards a performance of their song accompanied by the Ukulele, including singing in parts and identifying parts of the song including bridge and pre-chorus.

Class Six

Class six have had their mock SATS week this week, and have smashed it! It has not been easy, and being in test conditions has been difficult for some children, but they have all persevered, tried their best and tackled the week with a positive attitude; I' so proud of them all!

During the afternoons, children have continued to read Oh Maya Gods, and they are still gripped, with all the twists and turns.

During our RE lessons, in the countdown to Easter, children have begun creating a piece of art work to represent the garden of Gethsemane. They have also practised their DART assembly, and enjoyed learning about classification in science by sorting sweets!

24 Acts of Kindness & Book of Psalms Pictures

There is still time for children to return their ‘Acts of Kindness’ sheets for Lent and this week they have been encouraged to choose a psalm and create a picture – thank you to Georgiana and Emily in Class 4 for returning their pictures.
